Tahoe Douglas Rotary builds kiosks at local parks
Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 08/28/2012 - 10:37amMembers of the 60 member strong Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club recently completed two kiosks for the public to use in the South Lake Tahoe area. The first one is located at Kahle Community Park and the second one is at the new Van Sickle Bi-State Park. The kiosks are now used to hold information, including maps of trails and topography as well as pictures and events. The club took on the projects as part of the worldwide volunteer work day.

Yes, they did! And, they did it in record-setting style.
Four athletes, who are personal friends of Elaine and I, completed 10 very physically and mentally-demanding challenges in a period of 10 grueling days, way back in 2002.
I know because we were there for each and every one of those 10 memorable days that resulted in the very first Nevada 10-in-10 Challenge going into the Nevada record book.
Those four were Karl Horeis, Jeremy Evans, Rick Gunn and K. M. Cannon.
FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski to Visit South Lake Tahoe and Barton Memorial Hospital

Sally Ride, First American Woman In Space, Dies of Pancreatic Cancer

The soft-spoken California physicist broke the gender barrier 29 years ago when she rode to orbit aboard space shuttle Challenger to become America’s first woman in space.
Ride, 61, died in La Jolla, Calif. after a 17-month battle with pancreatic cancer, NASA reports on Monday.

We have now reached the 5th anniversary of the devastating Angora Fire which ravaged our community. The large scale wildfires in Colorado and New Mexico should serve as warnings to us all. After experiencing a very mild winter, our area faces a dangerous wild land fire season. CARSON CITY – Residents of this capital city, hit with tragedy earlier in the week with the shooting deaths of four people at a local restaurant, gathered at two somber ceremonies today to mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.
About 300 people gathered at Mills Park for the Patriot’s Day – 9-11 Remembrance sponsored by the Capital Baptist Church.
A similar number then gathered at the park to see the unveiling of a 1,600-pound I-beam from the World Trade Center towers donated to the city to form the basis of a 9-11 memorial.
