Why Research is so Important in Writing Mystery Novels at SLT LIbrary

Local author, JoAnn Conner, will discuss the importance of doing research when writing a mystery novel, and how this pertains to her own work. 'Heartwood' is historical fiction with a mystery woven in the story, while 'The Mountain' is a murder mystery revolving around the theft of Native American artifacts. The most challenging for Conner was launching her first series, featuring veteran Detective Frank Riley. 'Death Song' is a murder mystery that involved research on different forms of poisons, and how they are used. Book sale and signing to follow.

In the following months, her quest took her to every corner of Nevada, with her photographs and research blossoming into a beautifully illustrated and informative book. Author Jackie Boor will present "LOGAN: The Honorable Life and Scandalous Death of a Western Lawman". Ms. Boor is the great granddaughter of this historic sheriff and has unearthed the untold story of his 1906 murder. Dealing with rowdy miners, drunken gamblers, and even Wild West legends like Wyatt Earp was a routine part of the job for onetime Sheriff Logan.

This is a story steeped in local history (Logan Shoals and Creek are named for this historic sheriff), presented it in an entertaining and informative way. This in not to be missed.

Mary Jo Sonntag Returns to SLT Library with Tales of Pioneer Life

Local Author to Share his 500 Miles of SLT Hikes

Author to Speak about Yosemite's 150th at SLT

This interesting collection highlights unusual or lesser-known stories of the Sierra Nevada experience with the focus of this presentation being the Yosemite Valley Grant Act of 1864, which brought the valley under government control and is considered the beginning of the California State Park system.  This year is the 150th anniversary of that event. The legislation was introduced by an El Dorado County resident, John Conness.

Bill Morgan, author of "Six Days in Siberia" to discuss his books

Local author Bill Morgan (pen name Wade Morgan) will be discussing his book, Six Days in Siberia, a suspense thriller with overtones of a spy novel on October 1 at 6 pm at the SLT Library. The author has over 50 years of experience as a soldier, civil engineer, forest ranger, director of an environmental regulatory agency, management consultant and technical writer. Mr. Morgan has been to Siberia three times, including an assignment in the town of Baikalsk where he conducted a seminar on conflict resolution for officials of that town.

Local Authors to Read Their New Book "The Crazy Club Gets its Start"

The Friends of the Library are excited to present Christie Rassuchine (Higman) and Robyn Lindner, two authors who grew up in Tahoe. They will be reading from their new book. The story is about a group of elementary school students who form their own club and deal with bullying, acceptance, and what it feels like to be the new kid at school. The characters in the story are in third grade, but the book appeals to kids throughout elementary school.

This is a free, fun event and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Book sale and signing to follow.
