South Lake Tahoe robbery and car theft leads to arrest of two suspects near Fresh Pond

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two different crimes in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday turned out to be related and the alleged suspects were arrested near Fresh Pond, California.

On May 20 at approximately 2:50 p.m., officers from South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) responded to the 7-11 at 2620 Lake Tahoe Boulevard after receiving a call of a robbery. Upon arrival, the clerk told officers a man and a woman had walked into the store with black masks on, approached the counter where the female demanded money.

Douglas County car theft a good reminder for the public

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - A Volvo SUV was stolen in Minden, Nevada on December 7 and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office was able to recover it within 45 minutes. Arrested was 19-year-old Shane Dollar, a convicted felon for previous auto theft.

This car was recovered quickly which isn't always the case. Law enforcement is reminding the public to please lock and secure your vehicles at all times and never leave your keys in the ignition. This time of year it can be tempting to turn on the car and go back inside the house as it warms up.

South Lake Tahoe community engaging during monthly conversations

South Lake Tahoe Mayor Wendy David held her second "Community Conversation" on Wednesday, opening the avenues of conversation between government and the public. This time Councilmember Brooke Laine joined her.

During the first such meeting in January the crowd got too big for the chosen area, Peet's Coffee, so this month they moved to the SLT Senior Center. Everyone attending agreed the center was much more conducive to good conversation.

"I thought it went really well," said Wendy. "I really appreciate the respect everyone shows for each other and opinions can be shared freely."

Auto burglaries on rise in South Lake Tahoe; Two car thefts in one day

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is warning residents and visitors to take extra precaution in protecting their valuables as nine thefts from vehicles occurred between February 20-25, and two cars were stolen on February 24.

Six of the auto burglaries were in the Tahoe Island area and most of the cars involved in the City were left unlocked by their owners.

The first stolen car was a 2010 Silver Nissan Altima with Illinois license plate Z495853. It was stolen from the 1100 block of Herbert Avenue but has since been recovered.

Woman arrested for auto theft in South Lake Tahoe

The arrest of a 21-year-old transient in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday night follows a weekend where four cars were stolen and one was reported as missing.

As reported in South Tahoe Now, the cars were stolen from outside Domino's, Brother's Place, a Ruth Avenue business and a residence on Wiliam Avenue between Friday and Saturday, September 11 and 12. In each case, the ignition keys had been left in the vehicle.

Car thefts in South Lake Tahoe rose in 2013, leveled off in 2014

In the State of California, vehicle thefts dropped 7% in 2014, marking the second straight year of decline.

For South Lake Tahoe, it was the first year of decline in three years.

In 2013, vehicle thefts in the city limits jumped 46% from 37 stolen cars to 54. Following in 2014, there was a drop of 7% when 50 cars were stolen according to figures obtained by South Tahoe Now from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

To date, 2015 is looking to be a repeat of last year with 25 car thefts through June.
