Plans moving forward for Chateau at the Village project in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - What was once a large hole in the ground at Stateline in South Lake Tahoe has been filling in with businesses from the Zalanta condos to restaurants and shops, and the owner of the property is now preparing to start the next phase.

South Lake Tahoe Police busy with Phish concert goers and trash

South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) had their hands full on Tuesday before, during and after the first of two Phish concerts at the outdoor arena at Harveys Lake Tahoe.

Trash including empty alcohol bottles and beer boxes littered much of the open space surrounding Stateline and Cedar Avenues where hundreds of fans lined the streets. In addition to the trash, pop-up tents with vendors starting selling clothing and other items illegally.

The owner of the corner property, chateau at the Village, sent out crews to help clean, according to SLTPD Lt. David Stevenson.

New South Lake Tahoe resort plans unveiled

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In 2008 it was known as "The Hole" after financing dried up for a redevelopment project, bordered by Highway 50, Stateline Avenue, Friday Avenue and Cedar Avenue. A cement hole with rebar stayed until the project area could get under control of one owner through bankruptcy. In 2013, Owens Financial obtained a building permit to start spending $400 million to build over 27,000 square feet of commercial space along Highway 50. This was followed by the Zalanta Resort opening at Highway 50 and Friday Avenue in 2017.

Escrow closes on "The Chateau," luxury condo-tel planned

The sale of "The Chateau at the Village" in South Lake Tahoe is complete and the eight acres of land and entitlements are now owned by Tahoe Chateau Land Holding, LLC, a Chinese-American investment group.

The holding company, owned by Kawana Holdings, will own "air rights" above the existing retail area, related parking and the garage structure, the former convention center pad. The seller, Owens Realty Mortgage Inc., keeps the existing retail buildings and improvements that are home to McP's, Dough and various shops.

Millions of dollars expected to be invested in new Chateau at the Village project

The announcement this week of a buyer for the undeveloped portion of the Chateau at the Village has been met with excitement over new investments in South Lake Tahoe.

Owens Financial announced Kawana Meadows Development, LLC entered into a purchase agreement for $42.5 million for eight acres of the project, leaving the 3.5 acres currently home to the Zalanta and completed retail Chateau portion in the hands of Owens.

Owens Realty Mortgage has reported that Tahoe Stateline Venture, LLC, has entered into a purchase agreement with Jianping Pan, Kawana Holdings LLC to sell some of their Chateau at the Village for $42.5 million.

Owens Financial, the owner of the mixed-use development project known as Chateau at the Village, is looking for a buyer, or buyers, for the 11.5 acre area in South Lake Tahoe once known as "The Hole."

'Dough' opens in the Chateau, bringing fast, casual pizza to South Lake Tahoe

A year after opening his successful Sno Frozen Yogurt Cafe in the Chateau at the Village, Theron Baker joined family member and opened "Dough" right next door.

"Fast casual pizza is picking up across the country," said Baker. "I thought it'd be a good idea here."

Dough just opened on Saturday, February 13 and they've been hopping sever ince.

"The best thing about our pizza is that you don't have to share," added Baker.

New phase of construction to begin at The Chateau

Soon, memories of "The Hole" will be replaced with the vision of new retail, restaurants and condominiums as the next phase of construction begins in South Lake Tahoe.

The Chateau at the Village will continue its growth to the corner of Friday Avenue and Highway 50.
