Drivers without seat belts on focus of CHP holiday weekend enforcement

Buckle up when driving not only this holiday season as you head to Lake Tahoe, but each and every day no matter where you drive. As the unofficial start of summer, Memorial Day weekend is a busy time on California roadways. To help segue into summer safely, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will conduct a Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP).

New laws for drivers in California start January 1

With the new year just around the corner, the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is reminding the public of several new laws or changes to existing law that, unless otherwise noted, take effect January 1, 2018.

New California laws in 2017: Human trafficking, car seats, cell phones and more

Denim is now the state’s official fabric to recognize its role in California history, and every autographed collectible sold in California must come with a certificate that verifies it's not a forgery. Those are just two of 898 new laws facing Californians in 2017.

CHP child passenger safety seat check-up event

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) South Lake Tahoe office is conducting a car seat check-up event. The current law states child passengers must ride in either a car seat or booster seat until the age of eight years old and the only exception to the law is if the child is 4 feet 9 inches in height. Effective January 1, 2017, children under the age of 2 must ride rear-facing in an appropriate child safety seat.

2016 brings in new laws for California drivers, bikers and more

Hundreds of new California laws take effect on January 1, 2016, many that will have tangible impacts on the lives of Californians as they work, drive, ride a bike and shop.

CHP holds child seat clinic at their South Lake Tahoe office

The South Lake Tahoe Area office of the California Highway Patrol will be hosting a child passenger safety seat clinic on Wednesday, Aug 19 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, August 29 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

There will also be free car seats go to those who qualify.

Their office is located at 2063 Hopi Ave.

Come down and have your car seats inspected for free by trained professionals.
