New Goals Set For Lake Tahoe Bike Challenge

The Bike Challenge is a Tahoe Basin-wide campaign that challenges everyone to ride their bike to work, school and during play and errands in lieu of using the automobile.

Known as the premier camp to prepare riders for the Death Ride, the grueling 129-mile bike tour of the California Alps on July 14, 2012, Kirkwood’s Near Death Experience Bike Camp is designed to take riders to the next level.

Submitted by Anonymous on Sat, 05/12/2012 - 11:50amToday is the day: South Lake Tahoe bicycle group Slow Rollers is asking the community to come out to its second annual Spirit Bike Parade today and an attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records by forming the longest single line of bicycles. To beat the record, now held by the city of Davis of 916 bicycles, South Lake Tahoe will have to produce 917 bicycles or more. The event begins at 4 p.m. with a start up at the old Miller's Outpost, South Shore Bikes, 955 Emerald Bay Road. Get there early to register.

Slow Rollers bike club is sponsoring the May 17 event at 4pm. Riders will go from the Y in South Lake Tahoe to MontBleu in Stateline.

The latest is Liquigas-Cannondale, a professional Italian racing team in the UCI ProTour, who will call North Lake Tahoe home Saturday, May 5 through Friday, May 11 to train for the upcoming Amgen Tour of California, an eight-stage race scheduled for May 13-20 and held throughout the state of California.
