Hopeful Henry: Be a responsible pet owner

Ask Henry:

It’s Responsible Pet Owners Month so I wanted to share my top ten things you need to do to be a responsible pet owner.

1) Being a responsible pet owner starts before you even get a pet. Make sure you pick a breed that fits with your lifestyle. Do you live in an apartment? If so I wouldn’t rush out and get a Great Dane. Always consider adopting from a shelter, there are so many animals looking for their forever homes. If you must go with a breeder make sure they are reputable!

Pet of the Week: Lyric

This week's Pet of the Week is Lyric, a special 11-month-old pit who is "super friendly and super excited."

Lyric is a good girl who is house trained. She just needs some training to curb her excited behavior. The Lake Tahoe Humane Society will provide a free private training lesson with Good Dog Training to the family that gives Lyric her forever home.

Please call the Lake Tahoe Humane Society directly if you’re interested in Ruby 530-542-2857 (Monday-Friday 9-5) or 530-577-4521 (after hours 24/7 number).

Purple Paw Project shows effects of domestic violence on pets

Event Date:
October 10, 2015 - 11:00am

Join Live Violence Free and the Lake Tahoe Humane Society for "The Purple Paw Project" on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Bijou Park.

There is an effect of domestic violence on the family's pets, and this new project will use the free Saturday event to inform the public on what this is. Pets, as are children, are the innocent victims.

Join them at the Kiwanis gazebo at Bijou Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for food, music, a pet photo booth, raffle prizes and dog training.

Pet food donations will be accepted.
