Large fight breaks out near Stateline, authorities reportedly attacked in melee

Fourth of July Lake Tahoe restrictions include fireworks, holiday booze ban at Zephyr Cove and Nevada beach

Residents and visitors are urged to help protect public safety and the environment during the Fourth of July holiday by keeping wildfire prevention in mind.
The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management unit reminds folks that having fireworks of any kind — and sparklers are considered fireworks — is illegal in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Campfires are not permitted on Forest Service beaches or in the general forest. For Wednesday, July 4, 2012, only, personal barbecues are allowed at Nevada, Pope and Baldwin beaches but are not permitted on any other Forest Service beaches or in the general forest.

Heavenly Mountain Resort at Lake Tahoe honored five recipients of the Heavenly Mountain Resort Community Scholarship Program at a luncheon Wednesday at Tamarack Lodge, located at the top of the Heavenly Gondola.
For the ninth consecutive year, Heavenly Mountain Resort awarded $4,000 scholarships to five recent high school graduates, bringing the resort’s overall commitment to the Heavenly Mountain Resort Community Scholarship Program to $180,000. The scholarships are designed to help further the education of local area students.

Douglas agency warns people to stay out of Preacher Mine fire area

Sierra Front Interagency Fire Dispatch Center is asking citizens to stay out of the area where the Preacher Mine Fire recently burned in Douglas County.
Curious citizens and off-road vehicle operators have been utilizing the roadways and backcountry area where the fire burned, and this has caused problems for the fire mop-up crews still operating in the area.
Some smoldering hot spots still remain in the area, and hand crews will be operating in the area for several more days extinguishing them.

Man on parole turns himself in to Douglas County authorities

UPDATE: On Wednesday morning, at 6:45 am, parolee absconder Randy Nourse turned himself over to deputies at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Minden Station. Nourse was previously reported as a fugitive from justice by the State of California, Department of Parole and Probation. Nourse was safely taken into custody by Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies without incident.
Nourse will remain in the Douglas County Jail pending his extradition back to California.

UPDATE 10:15PM SATURDAY: Firefighters were able to get a handle on multiple fires in Douglas County that are thought to be caused by lightning in the region on Friday, officials report. As of 7:45 p.m. Saturday the Preacher Fire has burned 1,070 acres and is 55 percent contained. Pedestrian accident on Highway 50 at Zephyr Cove Lodge ties up traffic

A pedestrian was reportedly hit by a vehicle at Highway 50 at the Zephyr Cove Lodge at about 3:30 Friday afternoon. The victim was said to be conscious but bleeding from the head. Three vehicles are said to be involved in the accident, according to Douglas County dispatch.
Traffic controls are in place in the westbound lane headed into Lake Tahoe and the eastbound lane of Highway 50 toward Spooner Summit. A CalStar medical helicopter from South Lake Tahoe was unavailable because of snow and visibility. The victim was instead to be transported by ambulance to Barton Memorial Hospital.

TRE Fire in southern Douglas County grows to 7,500 acres, 15 percent contained

The TRE Fire burning in south Douglas County has grown to 7,500 acres, and is 15 percent contained, officials report Thursday.
The fire continues to burn in the hills to the north and east of the Topaz Ranch Estates residential area. Two homes and 17 structures were destroyed. No additional homes or structures have burned or are in immediate threat. The area in and around the fire is under a red flag warning to 11 p.m. Thursday due to high winds and relatively low humidity.

TRE Fire grows to 6,600 acres

Douglas County sent out an update this morning on the TRE Fire, which they say is now 6,600 acres. They also believe the fire was caused by a private residential open burn.

Topaz fire in Douglas County grows to 4,400 acres, officials revise homes destroyed at 2, with 17 structures burned

Douglas County officials scaled back the number of homes burned in the TRE Fire on Tuesday night to two homes from seven, however, 17 outbuildings were destroyed and the fire burning in south Douglas County at Topaz Ranch Estates has grown to 4,400 acres.
Sgt. Jim Halsey of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office reported the clarification in a news release. The fire continues to move in a northeasterly direction, away from homes in the Topaz Ranch Estates residential area.
