Bread & Broth thanks community as need and program expands

That mission took on new meaning beginning in mid-March with the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak when record numbers of individuals seeking food assistance from the various programs and services provided by B & B.
Family Resource Center “Bookworks” celebrates 27 years serving South Lake Tahoe community
Submitted by paula on Thu, 03/05/2020 - 12:31pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Family Resource Center (FRC) has been operating the used book store "Bookworks" in the South Lake Tahoe community for the past 27 years.
The nonprofit's store is currently located in the Lakeview Plaza, 3330 Lake Tahoe Blvd # 9, South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Their current hours are 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
Through the generous support of the local community with donations of books and the volunteers who manage the store, there are currently over 5000 books that cover over 160 genres for sale.
Volunteers needed for Mobile Food Bank stop in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sat, 04/30/2016 - 4:44pmThe Food Bank of El Dorado County is in need of eight to ten volunteers in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday May 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to help with their mobile food pantry.
Once a month, the food bank stops in South Lake Tahoe to distribute emergency supplemental groceries to those who need it most. Volunteers will be assisting in handing out food and signing people in. Hunger isn't just an inner city problem. Hunger isn't just a third world problem. Hunger affects approximately 16 million children in the United States with 3 million rural community households being "food insecure."
How can children focus on solving a math problem or writing an English paper when he or she is trying to ignore the persistent pangs of hunger? School work is forced to compete with hunger.
Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort hosts canned food drive for the Food Bank of El Dorado County

Titled CANucopia, Sierra Resort is encouraging guests to bring canned non-perishable foods such as canned soup, dried pasta, crackers, and pasta sauce to the collection bin located at the base of the mountain next to the season pass office until January 12, 2013.
