UPDATED: The 5th annual Tahoe Chamber Blue Ribbons Awards were held Thursday night, recognizing businesses, individual and organizations for their outstanding service and contribution to the South Shore Lake Tahoe community. The awards presentation recognized all businesses nominated and announce the winners of the eight separate categories.

Chamber Announces the 2012 Blue Ribbon Award Nominees

The Blue Ribbon Award nominations have been tallied, with more than 150 nominations received. Thank you to the businesses and individuals who took the time to nominate those making significant contributions to the South Shore community. The third annual “South Lake Tahoe Food and Wine Festival” arrives at Harrah's and Harveys Lake Tahoe, Oct. 5 – 7, for an early autumn weekend of great food, fine wine and high spirits.
Events include lots of dining and tasting experiences, plus discussions, presentations and demonstrations by celebrated food and wine experts. Of course, food and wine are the biggest stars and a spectacular “Epicurean Expo” – featuring sumptuous dishes from Harrah's best restaurants, top-shelf spirits and the finest wines of Napa Valley and beyond – highlights the weekend.

Bear Hug Around the Lake and Beats for Bears Sept 9

Sunny, Butterscotch, Charlie, Matchless and his brother, Kingsbury, Verdi and Little Girl, are just a few who have lost their lives.
To raise public awareness of how to live in harmony with Tahoe’s iconic black bears, a team of cyclist will be giving bear hugs on September 9th at spots around Lake Tahoe as part of Tahoe Expo. Those gathered at Sand Harbor for Beats for Bears will receive the hug and pass it along. The cyclists will arrive between 1 and 3 pm when Liz Broscoe will be holding the community drum circle.

Residents who would like to help people learn about the region's environmental assets and challenges are needed to serve as volunteer docents at the Thomas J. Long Foundation Education Center and the UC Davis Eriksson Education Center. Located in Incline Village and Tahoe City respectively, the two UC Davis education centers are well positioned along the North Shore of Lake Tahoe.

There are many people who experience unpleasant physical effects from scented products, such as perfumes and colognes. Sometimes, it might be a headache or nausea when passing by a department store’s fragrance counter or riding in an elevator with someone wearing a certain fragrance. However, there is a growing number of people who suffer more severe reactions to these and many other types of products and chemicals. This condition is known as multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS) and involves people who have developed an acute sensitivity to various chemicals in the environment.

Family Science Day at UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Center

On January 5, 2012 from 2 to 5 p.m., the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center will host a winter-themed Family Science Day. Families are invited to explore the mysteries of snow and ice. Engaging activities will provide your child an opportunity to learn about the science of winter. Children will conduct scientific experiments, view snowflakes under a microscope, take a snow-core and determine the water content of snow, learn about wind chill and why some animals hibernate, and much more.
