South Tahoe Vikings Win Exciting Game Against Dayton

In what had to be one of the more exciting games all year, the South Tahoe Vikings Boy's Varsity team came back from behind to beat Dayton by a score of 64-49.

A large and vocal student cheering section was joined by a talented pep band and stands of parents enjoying the second to the last home game for the Vikings.

The STHS Varsity takes their 9-12 overall record (7-6 league)into Saturday's home game against Fernley. Varsity tips off at 3:30 p.m.

In other action Tuesday, the STHS Viking Girl's Varsity team beat Dayton 46-30 and the Boys JV team beat Dayton 43-39.

South Tahoe Girls Soccer Team is #1 in State

November 16, 2013: This just in: The South Tahoe High School girl's soccer team has won the Nevada State 1-A Championship! In Friday's first round action the Lady Vikings beat Faith Luthern by a score of 2-1 which brought them to today's championship round against Pahrump Valley. South Tahoe was victorious by a score of 3-2 and is crowned state champ.

Public invited to Memorial Day Event as Carson Vietnam Veterans Unveil a Special Memorial

The Vietnam Veterans of America, Carson Area Chapter 388 invite you attend a Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 27th, 2013 beginning at 11 AM at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, Nevada.

The service will be an hour long. Immediately following the service, there will be an unveiling of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The shrine lists the names of 151 young men from the State of Nevada who gave their lives in Vietnam. Adjacent to that are the names of eight nurses who also gave their lives in Vietnam while they were there caring for our troops.

Washoe Drive Fire burns 26 homes, 3,900 acres, Highway 395 between Carson City and Reno still closed

Officials reported this morning that the Washoe Drive Fire destroyed 26 homes, and has currently consumed 3,900 acres.
At a 9 a.m. press conference, officials reported the blaze is 50 percent contained, and that 700 firefighters are working to extinguish hot spots in advance of the high wind that are forecast for this afternoon.
There were 20 homes reported lost last night, but in the light of day, personnel working the fire were able to get a better count of the structures that burned.

NHP: Highway 395 closed Friday from SR 431 Mount Rose to Carson City

Nevada Highway Patrol busy over Labor Day weekend

The Labor Day holiday weekend produced a high volume of traffic on northern Nevada highways resulting in a large number of calls for service. During the three-day weekend, nineteen people were arrested in the Reno-Sparks area with fifteen of those arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Troopers assigned to the Carson City area logged 3 DUI arrests. The DUI arrest activity for Lovelock, Fernley, Fallon and Hawthorne was not available this morning.
