Meyers business helps remove snow play trash; Clean Tahoe can direct others to litter hot spots

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - We've seen the stories and photos of trash left behind by the large number of people spending time in the snow from Truckee to South Lake Tahoe. A growing problem is the people finding whatever patch of snow is available, normally in areas not previously used for snow play.

South Lake Tahoe restaurants taking new steps in response to COVID-19

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With people unable to dine-in at restaurants in South Lake Tahoe due to concerns of the spread of the coronavirus, many are changing the way they've done business in the past in order to serve guests, keep some staff employed and keep afloat during these uncertain financial times.

Proposed parcel tax for county residents to support Lake Valley Fire

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On March 3, 2020, voters in the Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) boundaries will decide if Measure B should pass, a measure that would give the fire department funds for much-needed equipment, apparatuses, and supplies.

Graciously hosted by South Lake Brewing Co, the event was held on Friday, May 24, 2019 to increase awareness about organizations working to help animals in our community including the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe, Ruff RidersSaving Dogs on Death Row, Boxers & Buddies and the Animal Coalition of Tahoe.

Lake Tahoe Environmental Science Magnet School 1st grader "Principal for a Day"

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It isn't every day that 7-year-old Rocco DeFranco begins his day with a ride to Freel Perk for a cup of hot chocolate with Principal Joe Dameral before heading to Lake Tahoe Environmental Science Magnet School (LTESM) to begin his day.

And that was just the beginning of a day that wasn't a normal one for the first grader.

During the school's recent Spring Fling Pasta Dinner fundraiser, Rocco bid on an interesting silent auction item to be Principal for a Day. He spent his savings of $180 on that special day and Rocco was able to collect his prize on May 3.

USFS holding "Coffee with a Cop" Wednesday

US Forest Service law enforcement officer Adam Nadeau will be at Freel Perk in Meyers on Wednesday, October 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. as part of the national "Coffee with a Cop" day.

The public is invited to join him. The mission of Coffee with a Cop day is to break down barriers between the public and law enforcement. Residents are welcome to ask questions, voice concerns and get to know officers.

New Meyers Advisory Council focus of community meeting

El Dorado County Planning staff and Supervisor Sue Novasel will be at the Freel Perk Coffee Shop on Wednesday, September 19 to chat about the County's proposed Meyers Advisory Council.

Interested citizens can stop by at any between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

Novasel and staff will be available to discuss the Advisory Council and answer questions about the process to establish it. If you cannot attend, call 530.573.7905 for any questions and comments.

El Fresco Mexican Bistro has brought a new flavor to the heart of Meyers.

Locals Tim and Kristi Cain moved into the space vacated by Verde and spent weeks creating the new restaurant and menu. They own "Freel Perk" next door so they were excited to offer cuisine that fits not only their active lifestyle, but features a large menu with tapas, 11 breakfast choices, fajitas, tacos, burritos, salads, veggie bowls, soups and much more.

October is International Fair Trade Month, and Meyer's newest coffee shop, Freel Perk is playing along. Freel Perk carries only organic coffees; but what many don't know is that most of the coffee sold there is “fair trade” coffee from Alpen Sierra Roasting Company.
