SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Millions around the world participated in the Global Climate Strike this past September, trying to make their voices heard as they called for action.
A reported 7.6 million people took to the streets, the biggest climate mobilization in history. From small villages to big cities, people spoke, walked, joined hands and used their voices in defense of the climate and an end to reliance on fossil fuels.
Raley’s to pay $1.6 million to settle suit; Must provide emergency safe drinking water system
Submitted by paula on Tue, 08/26/2014 - 11:00amRaley’s has agreed to pay nearly $1.6 million in civil penalties, costs and funding for environmental projects as part of a settlement related to allegations of improperly disposing hazardous waste.
The judgment is the culmination of a civil enforcement lawsuit filed in San Joaquin County to stop the West Sacramento-based supermarket chain from unlawfully transporting and disposing of retail hazardous waste, according to a press release from at least two of the 25 district attorneys who announced the suit.
The settlement was approved by San Joaquin Superior Court Judge Bob McNatt.
Permanent Drug Disposal Bin Now Available at SLT Police Department

There is now a permanent drug-disposal bin located in the lobby of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department thanks to the collaboration between the Department and the South Tahoe Drug Free Coalition. This bin is in a secure location for anyone in the community to properly dispose of unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs.
Drug Take Back Day Nets Over 50 Pounds of Pills in South Lake Tahoe

During April's South Lake Tahoe Drug Take Back Day, over 50 pounds of prescription drugs were dropped off anonymously in the bins location in the Safeway parking lot. This is about a 27% increase over last year's efforts.
Getting unused prescription drugs out of the home is a major step in accomplishing two major goals of Drug Take Back Day: Keeping drugs out of the landfills and water systems and keep drugs out of the hands of people who they weren't prescribed for.
Old Style Household Light Bulbs Soon to be a Thing of the Past

You may not have noticed a lack of old style light bulbs on the store shelves yet, but on January 1st it became illegal to manufacture or import 40 and 60 watt incandescent light bulbs.
Stores are allowed to sell their current stock of the popular general service light bulbs. Some of the incandescent bulbs will still be allowed though, including three way, 150 watt and narrower based candelabra lights.
