New city attorney on board for South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With several hot topics on the horizon, Heather Stroud was approved today to be the new city attorney for South Lake Tahoe.

She was introduced during Tuesday's City Council where they unanimously approved her contract. Stroud then moved to the city attorney chair for the rest of the meeting.

Stroud's five-year contract gives her a base salary of $160,000.00 plus paid sick days, a car allowance of $250, and an opportunity to buy into the City's health plan.

City of South Lake Tahoe making changes to retiree health care plan

Eligible retirees from the City of South Lake Tahoe will soon be able to opt out of the City's medical insurance plan and get the money to use as they wish.

The City Council voted Tuesday to give the one time offer to their 145 retirees. How much they'll get is based on their years of service and number of years to being eligible for Medicare. They will be notified what their compensation offer will be.

Blue Shield is largest employer in El Dorado County

Blue Shield of California hopped over El Dorado County to secure the No. 1 spot on this week's list of El Dorado County's 25 largest employers. The nonprofit health plan employs 2,069 in El Dorado Hills, up from 1,850 -- a 12 percent increase from a year ago. El Dorado County employs 1,859.

The list features companies and government agencies. Employers are ranked by the number of employees in full-time equivalents that at operations in the county.

Public can weigh in on County's Mental Health Plan

The passage of Proposition 63 in 2004 gave needed funds to support county health programs. Every year the public can view the proposed budge and plans for the El Dorado County's portion of the funds received via MHSA (Mental Health Services Act).

The first meeting for the South Shore will be on November 20 at 10 a.m. at the South Lake Tahoe library located at 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd.

The plan for the 2015/16 year can be viewed on line.

Open Letter: South Lake Tahoe City Manager offers explanation to proposed budget cuts

Here's an open letter from Tony O'Rourke, city manager of South Lake Tahoe, sent to the local press. South Tahoe leaders will meet Sept. 27 to vote on proposed cuts to the budget, which could mean eliminating several more city jobs.
