Submitted by paula on Wed, 08/28/2019 - 3:09pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The second of two pilot plan holiday weekends designed to help alleviate traffic congestion on Meyer's back roads will take place on Monday, September 2 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Holiday traffic from South Lake Tahoe that heads west on Highway 50 over Echo Summit has been directed by apps like Waze and Google Maps to take side roads as the quickest route home. The redirected routes go through neighborhoods and block residents from their homes.
South Lake Tahoe Labor Day traffic test to include full road closures
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/17/2019 - 5:31pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In an attempt to address traffic concerns on side roads in the Meyers area, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and El Dorado County (EDC) conducted a test and put up two road closures on Sunday, July 7, 2019.
Barriers were placed at the intersections of Highway 50 and both Sawmill and North Upper Truckee roads in an attempt to keep westbound holiday traffic out of the neighborhoods and on the highway. In addition, they were also evaluating the traffic backup on both roads and the routing of traffic by directional apps like Waze and Google.
Lakeside neighborhood road closures start at 6:00 a.m. on July 4
Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 07/01/2019 - 2:02pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lower Lakeside Park near Stateline will be closed to non-permitted and non-emergency vehicles on the 4th of July from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. in order to keep people walking in the area safe from high volumes of holiday traffic.
The popular private beach near the firework barges is accessible by Lakeside Park Association members and pass holders (may enter at 8:00 a.m.). Passes are available for purchase for $20 for the day (may enter at 9:00 a.m.). These passes do not allow parking and are for beach access only.

In anticipation of traffic congestion during the upcoming 4th of July and Labor Day holidays, El Dorado County (EDC) is hosting a public meeting to discuss traffic control measures in the Lake Tahoe Basin on Tuesday, June 18 at 6:00 p.m. at the California Conservation Corps building.
El Dorado County Department of Transportation (EDCDOT) will present a traffic congestion circulation alternative that officially and temporarily closes portions of both Sawmill Road and North Upper Truckee at Highway 50.

What is certain is a Winter Storm Watch has been issued and in effect from Monday morning to Tuesday morning, making Saturday and Sunday the best travel days of the mountain passes prior to Christmas.

Lake Tahoe area roadwork July 1 - 7
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/02/2018 - 3:13pmThe 4th of July is not only a fun holiday, but it is a very busy one in Lake Tahoe. Due to heavy holiday traffic, Caltrans will suspend their roadwork projects at the lake.
Roadwork on U.S. Highway 50 from the "Y" intersection to the Trout Creek Bridge will be suspended starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 3. The regular weekly construction schedule will resume at 9 p.m. Thursday, July 5.
Although construction will be suspended for the holiday, there will be heavy traffic and work zones will still be set up. Please "Be Work Zone Alert."

The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) asks residents and visitors to keep the following tips in mind to help everyone enjoy a safe and fun holiday.

Solutions being sought to alleviate tourist traffic in Meyers
Submitted by paula on Tue, 02/20/2018 - 3:51pmHoliday traffic leaving South Lake Tahoe this weekend created another bottleneck in Meyers as well as on side roads throughout the area from those attempting to find a quicker getaway. The choices they made Monday created a three-hour drive from the Y in South Lake Tahoe to areas in Meyers.
Highway 50 over Echo Summit is designed to handle 1,200 cars per hour without any issues, but those numbers dropped Monday, February 19. Just how much they dropped is unknown as the traffic counters normally placed over the roadway are removed for snow removal.
Holiday traffic and slick roads keeping tow trucks and law enforcement busy
Submitted by paula on Mon, 02/19/2018 - 3:50pmNorth Upper Truckee and Sawmill Road have become parking lots Monday afternoon, reminiscent of 2017's problems of ill-equipped vehicles on snow covered back roads.
The California Highway Patrol and El Dorado County Sheriff's Office have spent Monday responding to several calls in the Meyers area of cars stuck on side roads as they attempt to circumvent the backlog of traffic on Highway 50.
Along with those issues there have been several accidents and as of 3:30 p.m, State Route 88 may have to close due to a crash
Lane restrictions and work hours to increase on Hwy 50 in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 09/01/2017 - 4:36pmWork on the $56 million Highway 50 project in South Lake Tahoe is suspended for the Labor Day weekend, but once the holiday traffic leaves drivers can expect longer delays when lane restrictions are increased.
Starting Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 12:01 a.m., contractor Security Paving Inc. may reduce the highway to one open lane iSn each direction around the clock until 11 a.m. on Fridays.
Beginning Sept. 10, work will be around the clock from midnight Sunday to 11 a.m. Friday each week, with weekends free of construction. Motorists can expect delays of up to 30 minutes.
Construction on new trail near Incline Village suspended for holiday
Submitted by paula on Fri, 09/01/2017 - 3:34pmDue to anticipated heavy holiday traffic near Incline Village this Labor Day weekend, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has put work on hold at the State Route 28 shared-used path Saturday, Sept. 2 through Monday, Sept. 4.
NDOT and Granite Construction officials timed current work to be at a point where State Route 28 could be accessible in both directions for the weekend. Work will remain in progress through Friday, Sept. 1 and will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 7:00 a.m.
Expect weather and traffic to cause problems for travelers to and from Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 12/30/2016 - 9:10amCaltrans is alerting motorists traveling in the Sierra foothills, to mountain areas or over the Donner or Echo Summits during the New Year’s weekend to be prepared for travel delays. Cold temperatures and alternating bands of precipitation are predicted to arrive Friday night and continue through Tuesday morning, January 3, resulting in winter driving conditions, even at lower elevations.
Two people hit after getting out of vehicle near Twin Bridges
Submitted by paula on Fri, 12/23/2016 - 3:39pmThe California Highway Patrol is currently working on an accident near Twin Bridges that involved four cars and resulted in two major injuries.
According to Jeff Gardner of the CHP in Meyers, a green Chevy Suburban was disabled when their chains came off just before 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 23. There were six people in the vehicle, and one got out to tend to the chains when they were hit by another vehicle. As another passenger from the Suburban got out to help, they too were hit by a car.
High winds ahead of weekend snow storm in Lake Tahoe

Another system is headed into the Lake Tahoe basin on Friday, bringing with it winds 20-30 mph with prolonged wind gusts from 30-55 mph. The wind advisory is in effect from 10:00 a.m. Friday to 4:00 p.m. Saturday.
Waves are expected to be 2-4 feet with the highest ones on the north and east shores.
USFS asks public to stay safe during the Fourth of July holiday at Lake Tahoe

For those visiting during the holiday and attending one of the firework displays over the lake, expect extremely crowded conditions and excess traffic. Because of the Basin’s high elevation, expect intense sunlight during the day and much lower temperatures at night. Bring sunscreen, a jacket, and carry a flashlight. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated.
Accident at Strawberry adding to holiday traffic jam leaving Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 01/18/2016 - 12:46pmAn overturned vehicle near Strawberry is creating a holiday traffic jam over Highway 50 today. Eastbound lanes are blocked at Mile Marker 41.
The California Highway Patrol is reporting no injuries in the accident which was reported at 11:49 a.m. Tow trucks just arrived at 12:30 p.m. and are getting the vehicle out of the roadway.
Traffic through Meyers has been reported as heavy all day, which is normal after a holiday weekend in Lake Tahoe, but several drivers have said they haven't moved in over 30 minutes.
Plan for heavy traffic during Thanksgiving holiday

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) advises motorists that experts are predicting a slight increase in all methods of travel nationwide, with about 47 million people traveling either by car or airplane for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Heavy traffic leaving South Lake Tahoe

As of 11 a.m., it was a 14 minute drive from the intersection of Highway 50 and Pioneer Trail near Stateline to the "Y." It is a 70 minute trip from that same location to Meyers and 160 minutes to Placerville.
Three new message signs were unveiled in South Lake Tahoe just before the 4th of July holiday weekend.
Fatal motorcycle accidents at Highway 50 and Mount Rose Highway near Lake Tahoe ties up homebound holiday traffic
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 09/03/2012 - 3:08pmUPDATE: 5:18PM: A female passenger on a motorcycle died this Labor Day and the driver was seriously injured on Highway 50 near Glenbrook, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. In a separate accident on Mount Rose Highway a motorcyclist has also died.
The Highway 50 accident, reported at 3:13 Monday afternoon near Logan Creek on the East Shore of Lake Tahoe, shut down traffic in the eastbound lane. Traffic, as of 5 p.m. continued to be diverted to the westbound lane, said NHP Trooper Barbara Stapleton.
