Lake Tahoe ALS and local charity ice bucket challenge in the lake on Sunday

Event Date:
August 31, 2014 - 3:00pm

Many people living in areas affected by the drought are feeling guilty about participating in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, so organizers in South Lake Tahoe have given it a new twist.

On Sunday, August 31 at Lakeview Commons, there will be a community wide bucket challenge to raise money for both ALS and local charities. They are asking people to bring their own 5 gallon bucket and $10. At 3 p.m. participants will stand in the water at Lakeview Commons and fill their buckets up with water and have some fun.

Vail Resorts participates in ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and donates $25,000

Vail Resorts CEO Rob Katz took on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on Tuesday in honor of Northstar Snow Services Manager, Matt Reeder, who has been battling the disease since 2011.

250 senior team members of the resort "jumped in" on the challenge and Vail Resorts gave $100 for each of them to ALS.

Vail operates Heavenly Valley, Kirkwood and Northstar in Lake Tahoe.

Nevada Governor accepts ice bucket challenge

What swept through South Lake Tahoe this past winter (as reported on South Tahoe Now) has morphed into an ice bucket challenge, this time as a fundraiser for ALS. KOLO-TV anchor Sarah Johns and Reno City Councilwoman/candidate for Mayor Hillary Schieve challenged Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval who accepted and has now challenged Nevada's two Senators, Harry Reid and Dean Heller.
