Reno Jazz Orchestra Presents Music of Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra

Come experience Northern Nevada's finest jazz musicians as Music Director Doug Coomler and the Reno Jazz Orchestra present the music of the Thad Jones and Mel Lewis Orchestra.

This big band jazz Orchestra became world-famous, especially with their 1967 release, Live at the Village Vanguard. The album was nominated for a GRAMMY in that same year under the category of "Best Instrumental Jazz Performance of a Large Group." The Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra went on to win a GRAMMY in 1979.

Jazz For the Holidays Show Set for December 20th

With the holiday season now in full swing, it’s only appropriate that the Reno Jazz Orchestra (RJO) brings Jazz for the Holidays to Northern Nevada for all to enjoy on December 20, 2013 at The Nightingale Hall - University of Nevada. Accompanying the accomplished musicians of the RJO are vocalists Cami Thompson and Kenn Pettiford, international Tap star Sam Weber and performers from the Sierra Nevada Ballet under the direction of Rosine Bena. The Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Vern Scarbrough, will open the holiday performance which starts at 7:30 pm.
