August 7, 2014 - 7:00pm The "Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival" presents Boogie Woogie Hall of Famer Carl Sonny Leyland in concert on Thursday, Aug. 7, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St., Carson City. "Jazz & Beyond" is a yearly festival put on by the Mile High Jazz Band Association and its sponsors. Admission to this concert is free. Donations are requested and include a chance at a door prize.

"Jazz & Beyond" is a yearly festival put on by the Mile High Jazz Band Assoc. and its sponsors. People can enjoy these family friendly "Jazz Picnics in Park" concerts in a pleasant atmosphere with shade trees and a bit of Nevada history.

August 1, 2014 - 5:00pm The 2014 "Jazz & Beyond - Carson City Music Festival" will open with a "Mad Hatter Garden Party," a ticketed event in the backyard of the Nevada Governor's Mansion, on Friday, August 1, from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. The gate opens at 5:00 p.m., and the show starts at 5:30 p.m. The party features music by the Corky Bennett Trio, finger foods by Carson City Confections, wine, beer, and a raffle. The Governor's Mansion is at 606 Mountain St., Carson City, and entrance is by the Robinson St. entrance.

"With the US Freestyle National Championships March 29-31, and Shaun White’s High Roller Hold ‘Em April 6, followed by the Gunbarrel 25 on April 7, it’s going to be an amazing spring," said Heavenly spokesman Russ Pecoraro.

With snow on the way in time for the weekend, South Shore Lake Tahoe has a number of activities at ski resorts, lodges and casinos lined up now through spring. Besides skiing and snow boarding at Sierra Resort, Heavenly and Kirkwood there's concerts, contests and festivals planned in the weeks ahead.
Lake Tahoe, Sierra brace for winter storms to arrive as Christmas travel period begins
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 12/20/2012 - 7:16pmA series of strong winter storms will arrive in three waves and when it is over, anywhere from 2 to 5 feet of snow will have dropped above Lake Tahoe, at ski resorts, on highways and throughout much of the Sierra in time for Christmas.
A Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service is in effect through Monday morning for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra as a strong series of systems moves into the region.
Periods of light to moderate snow will begin Friday and intensive early Saturday morning with moderate to heavy snow Saturday through Sunday night.
