Learn how to grow onions and garlic at UCD class in Lake Tahoe

Join Lake Tahoe Master Gardeners and UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) on September 25 as they delve into the tricks of the trade in growing garlic and onions in high altitude.

These varieties are specifically chosen to survive tough Tahoe winters and provide a hearty spring harvest. Topics include proper varietal selection, location in the garden or container, planting options, and methods for protecting the young plants.

9th Annual Landscape Conservation Workshop

On Sunday August 14th from 12:00 pm to 3:30 pm the Tahoe Resource Conservation District will hold the 9th annual Landscape Conservation Workshop at the Evans Family Garden located at 1383 Mount Olympia Circle in South Lake Tahoe. The workshop will provide a unique opportunity to see demonstrations of Tahoe Friendly Landscape practices and to interact with local conservation professionals.

Tahoe in Bloom garden tour set for July

Not only are the Lake Tahoe wildflowers giving viewers a colorful experience, so are the gardens of local green thumbs.

The Lake Tahoe Master Gardeners are holding the Annual Tahoe in Bloom Garden Tour on Saturday, July 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Six beautiful gardens will be on display in the Mid-Kingsbury neighborhood.

During the tour there will also be three Tahoe-specific educational gardening talks, and Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer any questions.

Lake Tahoe Master Gardeners holding plant sale and June Jamboree

7th Annual Landscape Tour: Vegetable gardens of Meyers highlighted

A free, and self guided tour of various vegetable gardens in Meyers will be held on Thursday, August 21 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

See how successful local gardeners can be, even with our high altitude and short growing season in the South Lake Tahoe area.

Staff from the Tahoe Resource Conservation District, University of California Cooperative Extension- Lake Tahoe Master Gardeners and residents will be on hand at each location to share tips, success stories and information on how you too can successfully grow vegetables in our mountain environment.

Why I Farm Author to Speak at Library

The South Lake Tahoe Friends of the Library and Lake Tahoe Master Gardeners partner up to present third-generation farmer Gary Romano, author of Why I Farm: Risking it All for Life on the Land, in a talk and book signing. Romano will speak from experience about today’s most vital issues: how to live with purpose and how to protect our food supply. He will also be taking questions about farming and gardening in the Sierra.

Green Thumbs Tuesdays are back

Beginning Tuesday, June 25, The UC Davis Lake Tahoe Environmental Research Center will kick off the Green Thumb Workshop Series with a talk about "Food Gardening 101" featuring Christy Daugherty, formerly from the U.S. Forest Service and now part of the Lake Tahoe Master Gardeners.

New Lake Tahoe Master Gardener Program Offered

Training for a Lake Tahoe Master Gardener program will begin this September in South Lake Tahoe.
The program is a partnership between the University of California Cooperative Extension Central Sierra and the Tahoe Resource Conservation District.
Participants who complete the 50-hour training course will be certified Lake Tahoe Master Gardeners who then can provide the community with research-based information about home horticulture and gardening.
