Dense Smoke Advisory for Lake Tahoe through Friday at minimum

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After one day of blue skies above Lake Tahoe, smoke once again has filled the Basin. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno, the smoke is from multiple fires including the Fork Fire west of Lake Tahoe which sent some smoke into Emerald Bay on Wednesday.
NWS Reno has just issued a Dense Smoke Advisory which is in effect now through Friday at 5:00 p.m. due to the smoke moving into the area faster than previously forecast.

Smoke from California fires have plagued the Lake Tahoe Basin for a few weeks, and there is no relief in sight. Afternoon winds stoked the Donnell Fire Wednesday, pushing a large plume of smoke into the atmosphere and sending it right to Lake Tahoe and the Reno/Carson Valley area.
Prescribed burns sending smoke into air around Lake Tahoe

Smoke from prescribed fire operations can be seen above South Lake Tahoe from points all around the lake.
The Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team (TFFT), which includes local, state and federal agencies, has numerous locations around Lake Tahoe where they will be burning overgrown vegetation.
USFS fire operations scheduled to resume this week in Lake Tahoe

Weather permitting, the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team (TFFT) may conduct prescribed fire operations this week on the north end of Lake Tahoe. Smoke may be present.

Prescribed fires around Lake Tahoe as weather permits

The Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team (TFFT) will continue prescribed fire operations over the next several weeks, weather permitting. Lake Valley, North Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Douglas fire protection districts, California State Parks, California Tahoe Conservancy and the U.S. Forest Service will conduct prescribed fire operations in multiple areas around Lake Tahoe. Smoke may be present.
A. Airport East - 1 acre
B. West 1st Creek - 25 acres
C. Diamond Peak Ski Area - 23 acres
D. Champagne Rd - 9 acres
E. Dale Drive - 1 acre
F. Cave Rock Area - 5 acres
G. Upper Kingsbury - 3 acres
Prescribed fires set to resume around Lake Tahoe

After taking a break during the Thanksgiving holiday, the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team (TFFT) resume prescribed fire operations next week, beginning Monday, November 27, 2017, weather permitting.
North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, California State Parks and the California Tahoe Conservancy will conduct prescribed fire operations above Incline Village, D.L. Bliss and Burton Creek state parks and near the airport in South Lake Tahoe. Smoke may be visible.
North of the CSLT Airport, Southwest of the Sierra Tract Subdivision - 8 acres
Hwy 89 / Lester Beach Road - 8 acres
USFS prescribed burn in Lake Tahoe resumes Monday

California State Parks will kick off the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team (TFFT) fall prescribed fire program next week, beginning October 10, 2017. If conditions are favorable, prescribed fire operations will take place in D.L. Bliss State Park on the southwest end of Lake Tahoe. Smoke may be visible and is expected to last through the week. Prescribed burn near Union Valley Reservoir sending smoke into Lake Tahoe Basin

Smoke from a prescribed burn on the east side of Union Valley Reservoir in the El Dorado National Forest sent smoke into the Lake Tahoe Basin Tuesday.
The U.S. Forest Service is burning 240 acres over a two-day period in that area.
Prescribed burns in the Lake Tahoe Basin were scheduled to start this week but have been postponed since the area is still under fire restrictions.
Prescribed burns to continue in Lake Tahoe basin next week

North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, the Nevada Division of Forestry and the U.S. Forest Service will continue widespread prescribed fire operations beginning the week of November 30, 2015.
Operations are planned for the following areas:
57 acres on urban lots on the west side of Incline Village. Smoke expected to travel North/Northeast/East.
28 acres off Fairway Drive near Tahoe City. Smoke expected to travel North/Northeast/East.
105 acres in Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park north of Spooner Lake. Smoked expected to travel Northeast.
Forest Service fire operations resuming around Lake Tahoe

Smoke be seen around the lake starting on Monday, March 9 due to the Nevadd Division of Forestry and U.S. Forest Service fire operations.
Burning is scheduled to take place southwest of Meeks Bay, on Gardner Mountain near South Tahoe High School and off Gardner Street, Luther Pass near Grass Lake, Ski Run Boulevard near Heavenly, near Logan Creek Drive on the East Shore, Slaughterhouse Canyon and Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park north of Spooner Summit.
Operations may last through the next several weeks as conditions allow.
Protect Yourself from Smoke during Wildfires

During fire season, the air we breathe can become impacted by wildfire smoke. Fine particles in smoke can cause health problems, especially for children, older people and those with respiratory conditions.
Residents who see or smell smoke should consider taking these precautionary measures:
1. Healthy people should delay strenuous exercise.
2. Children and elderly people should consider avoiding outdoor activities, particularly prolonged outdoor exertion.
3. People with health-related illnesses, particularly respiratory problems, should remain indoors.
