Collapsed building getting new roof and new look

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Work crews have been busy at the historic Pioneer Center on Harrison Avenue where a roof collapsed on January 23, flooding out the liquor store and thrift shop beneath it.

Hoyt Holmes of H.W. Holmes Incorporated has been hired to rebuild the structure which will have a smaller version of the liquor store and a new retail/coffee shop space as well as the existing Port-of-Subs, Sierra Veterinary Hospital, Rojo's and Jalisco's.

Holmes said the new roof will be up by October 31 and construction should be complete around the beginning of 2018.

On January 23, 2017, snow caused the roof collapse of the historic building that housed not only the Green Tahoe Market and Liquor Store on Harrison Avenue in South Lake Tahoe, but also the Lucky Dog Thrift Store.

When the roof collapsed, the sprinkler system was set off and the water main broke, sending gallons of water through the stores in the building. Clean up and building repairs are still underway.

The historic building that housed a liquor store and other businesses in South Lake Tahoe suffered significant damage after a heavy snow load contributed to the collapse of the building's roof early Monday morning.

One stabbed, one arrested for attempted murder after fight in Gardnerville liquor store

MINDEN, NEVADA – Two men were involved in a fight at the Ranchos Liquor Store in Gardnerville Friday night, resulting in one transported by air ambulance to Reno, the other arrested and jailed on multiple charges.

At 5:44 p.m., deputies from Douglas County Sheriff's Office responded along with paramedics and found an unidentified 50-year-old man suffering from a knife wound to the chest. He was transported to Renown Medical Center.

Seminar for people who sell, serve and pour alcohol in SLT

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is inviting business owners of establishments that serve or sell alcohol, and their employees, to attend a free seminar presented by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control on Monday, October 26th, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the City Council Chambers at the South Lake Tahoe Airport, 1901 Airport Road.

BevMo! opens 157th store in South Lake Tahoe

Long awaited BevMo! opened with much fanfare Friday morning to a large crowd in South Lake Tahoe. A line of an estimated 225 people formed in front of the store prior to the 9 a.m. ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony.

First in line was local resident Dayton Hirsch. "I didn't think I'd be first when I got here at 7:15 a.m.," Hirsch said. As he walked in the door he, and the next 499 people, all received a mini-soft sided cooler complete with a martini shaker, drink recipe book, cup and assorted BevMo! and vendor gifts.

Three arrested while attempting burglary of Tahoe Keys Liquor

Three suspects were arrested early Wednesday morning as they were attempting to burglarize the Tahoe Keys Liquor store in South Lake Tahoe.

Lorenzo Jackson, a 20-year old from Antioch, CA, Shayan Taghi, a 20-year old from San Ramon, CA and Ryan Mello, a 21-year old from San Lorenzo, CA were all arrested on charges stemming from the burglary.

Armed Man Sought in Gardnerville Liqour Store Robbery

The Lucky Liquor Store on Highway 395 in Gardnerville was robbed on December 26 by a Hispanic man with a small semi-automatic weapon.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the suspect walked into the liquor store at 8:30 pm and demanded money from the store employee. The robber is described as a Hispanic male, 30 to 35 years of age, 6’ tall, 250 pounds wearing a black jacket with a hood and black shorts. The lower part of his face was covered by a red bandana. He used a small semi-automatic silver and black pistol to commit the robbery.
