South Lake Tahoe Community Members Participate in Round Table Discussions
Submitted by paula on Wed, 01/29/2014 - 3:51pmOver 100 members of the South Lake Tahoe community attended the 3rd Annual Tahoe Chamber Community breakfast on Tuesday where they shared their visions of what was needed for success.
Those attending broke up into group discussions on a few topics including what they felt small businesses in the area need in order to be better prepared. Since the event was put on the by chamber, there was also discussion was about what the TahoeChamber.org could provide to improve their member's experiences.

Lake Tahoe Skiers Nominated for U.S. Olympic Alpine Team
Submitted by paula on Sun, 01/26/2014 - 3:31pmThe U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association Sunday nominated 20 athletes to the U.S. Olympic Alpine Ski Team that will compete in Sochi next month. The team is highlighted by Olympic gold medalists Bode Miller (Franconia, NH), Ted Ligety (Park City, UT), Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA) and World Champion Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, CO).

U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association announced the nomination of 13 halfpipe and slopestyle snowboarding athletes Sunday afternoon at the conclusion of the Sprint U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix. Slopestyle snowboarding will be contested in the Olympic Winter Games for the first time ever in Sochi. The five event qualifying series came down to the final stop at Mammoth Mountain, with all but two spots decided during the final event weekend.

2014 Olympic Halfpipe and Slopestyle Team Nominations Announced
Submitted by paula on Tue, 01/21/2014 - 3:56pmUSSA - Five additional freeskiing athletes were nominated by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association to be a part of the Olympic debut of halfpipe and slopestyle skiing. In addition, skicross athlete John Teller (Mammoth Lakes, CA) was nominated to the team, following his win in the final Olympic qualifying World Cup last week. With the confirmation of quotas within freestyle skiing, the USSA added two skiers in halfpipe and three in slopestyle to round out the full team.

UPDATED: As Lake Tahoe continues to earn the respectable distinction of having bicycle-friendly communities, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency will host experts from two well-established cities to discuss ways the basin can improve its trails and paths.
The TRPA has invited bicycle community planners from Portland, Oregon and Park City, Utah for a community speaker panel today, Thursday, July 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lake Tahoe Community College in the Board Room. A similar speaker panel was held on Wednesday at Kings Beach.
Freestyle skiing trailblazer Sarah Burke dies after Jan. 10 training accident
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 01/20/2012 - 3:00amCanadian freeskier Sarah Burke died Thursday in a Salt Lake City hospital, nine days after crashing at the bottom of the superpipe during a training run in Utah. Burke, who lived near Whistler in British Columbia, was 29. She was injured Jan. 10 while training at a personal sponsor event at the Park City Mountain resort.
Tests revealed Burke suffered "irreversible damage to her brain due to lack of oxygen and blood after cardiac arrest," according to a statement released by Burke's publicist, Nicole Wool.
