Ceremony for SLT police awards and retirement of K9 Tara moved

Due to the chance of inclement weather on Thursday, May 17, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department Annual Awards Ceremony held in honor of Peace Officer Memorial Week has been moved to the City Council Chambers located at 1901 Airport Road.

The event starts at 4:00 p.m. and will include awards, the retirement of K9 Tara, and the swearing in ceremony of recently selected Sergeant, Jeffrey Roberson.

The 10-year-old Tara's handler is Sergeant Jason Cheney.

Richard Swanson Family, Police Officers and Citizens Honored During South Lake Tahoe Ceremony

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department used Peace Officer Memorial Week to honor a few of their own along with some local citizens on Thursday.

In a ceremony in front of the police station, Police Chief Brian Uhler bestowed the following awards:

- Officer Andy Eissinger received an award for Distinguished Service
- Dispatcher Jillian Broadfoot awarded for Meritorius Service
- Todd and Zetta Friedel and Cory Escobar received the Citizen Award of Merit
- Explorer Daniel Loyola received the Distinguished Explorer award

In honor of Peace Officers Memorial Week, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department is inviting the public to their Annual Awards Ceremony at the police station on Thursday, May 15 at 2 p.m.

Supervisor Kathy Bolinger - – Distinguished Service

Dispatcher Jillian Broadfoot – Meritorius Service

Todd and Zetta Friedel – Citizen Award of Merit

Cory Escobar – Citizen Award of Merit

Explorer Daniel Loyola – Distinguished Explorer Award

In honor of Peace Officer Memorial Week, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department honored officers, dispatch and citizens during its Annual Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 15, 2013.

“We are so proud of the selfless efforts by our police force on a daily basis and it’s nice to have an opportunity to support them in this way” said City of South Lake Tahoe Mayor Tom Davis. “These are all local heroes in our police and fire departments and its good we take the time to honor them.”
