Missing German Shepherd Rebel found by Tahoe Paws

8:30 p.m. UPDATE: Rebel has been found and is back home. Wendy Jones of Tahoe Paws located him.

MEYERS, Calif. - A nine-month old German Shepard puppy named Rebel got out of his home near Meyers and Christmas Valley on Monday and he is still missing.

He has a blue collar on with his name and phone number. His left ear is floppy.

Rebel is described as being a very sweet puppy but very timid.

Public Health reminder: Keep pets current on rabies vaccines

El Dorado County Animal Services is reminding residents to keep pets current on rabies vaccines and notify Animal Services of any animal bite. Last week, Animal Services identified a skunk on the 5600 block of Pony Express Trail in Pollock Pines that tested positive for rabies. This is the second rabid skunk to be found in El Dorado County in the past six months.

Traffic on Highway 50 held for hours due to snow slide

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Traffic is being held in Meyers and Twin Bridges due to a snow slide on Echo Summit.

The slide occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m. and according to the CHP in Placerville, it covered some vehicles in the westbound lane. There has been a standstill line of traffic on Highway 50 through Meyers all afternoon and cars are still stopped there waiting for the road to reopen.

Flu vaccine clinics in South Lake Tahoe and West Slope

The 2018/19 flu season almost upon us and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) is recommending an annual influenza vaccination for everyone six months and older with any licensed, age-appropriate flu vaccine.

They said flu vaccines have been updated to better match circulating viruses (the B/Victoria component was changed and the influenza A(H3N2) component was updated).

We had an amazing presentation of Emerson (played by Kim Harris 775-220-0605 kim@westernhistoryalive.com ) as she taught us about the Pony Express; why it came to be, what it was like and why it only in operation for 18 months. We had Sarah Winnemucca (played by Evie Bouette ) teach us a Washoe Indian dance and some of their traditions. We were up and moving and learning!

Men arrested after pursuit of stolen truck along Highway 50

A pursuit of a stolen 2017 Chevy Pickup began on Highway 50 near Riverton and ended near Sly Park Wednesday, leading to the arrest of two men, one for attempted murder of an officer.

The Placerville California Highway Patrol (CHP) attempted to pull over the truck driven by Cesar Ramos, 26, of Hollister, Calif. at Riverton. Instead of stopping, Ramos sped away in the westbound direction at speeds of 90-110 mph.

Men wanted in connection to El Dorado County homicide captured in Carson City

3/15/18 UPDATE: Two men arrested early Wednesday at a Carson City home have been identified and now face murder charges in El Dorado County, Calif.

Chase Bomar, 19, and Cody Bomar, 21, were taken into custody after Carson City Sheriff’s Office SWAT responded to assist El Dorado County authorities at a home in the 1200 block of Palo Verde Drive.

The men were wanted in connection to the fatal stabbing of Jeremy Fortuin, 42, of Pollock Pines. The stabbing happened on Pony Express Trail in Cedar Grove on the west slope of El Dorado County.

Pair arrested after El Dorado County butane lab explosion

Two people have been arrested in the New Year's Day butane extraction lab explosion in El Dorado County.

El Dorado County Fire and deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office responded to the 3:25 p.m. call of an explosion in a home in the 5100 block of Pony Express Trail in Camino.

Suspected illegal butane lab explodes in El Dorado County; 1 adult, 1 minor injured

On adult male and one juvenile were hospitalized after an explosion at a Camino, California home on January 1, 2018.

Initially, El Dorado County Fire responded to the 3:25 p.m. call of an explosion in a home in the 5100 block of Pony Express Trail. They then asked for El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office to respond to the scene for a possible butane extraction lab explosion.

Joshua Jamison, 39, was at the home when the explosion occurred and suffered burns to his face. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

David Antonucci to speak on Mark Twain at Dangberg Historic Park

Author David C. Antonucci will speak on his book Fairest Picture: Mark Twain at Lake Tahoe at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, August 12, at 10:00 am.

In 1861, Samuel Clemens, the man who would become Mark Twain, hiked to Lake Tahoe to stake a claim for a timber ranch. He spent many blissful days on the Lake but carelessly allowed his campfire to escape, creating a spectacular wildfire. He later wrote about his experiences in his 1872 memoir, Roughing It.

Author to speak on Nevada State Children's Home at Dangberg Historic Park

The Nevada State Orphans Home at Carson City was authorized in 1869 by the legislature with construction beginning the same year. The first child was admitted in October of 1870.

Distinguished Nevada lawyer and former district attorney, Patty Cafferata, will share the fascinating history of the death penalty as practiced within Nevada. Cafferata will describe the methods of execution the state has used since its territorial days in 1860 through the present, including death by hanging, firing squad, lethal injection and the gas chamber.

The Pony Express Re-Ride 2017 is almost in the history books. The mochila (mailbag) was transferred to a rider at the Nevada/California state line at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday night. That rider then went down Pioneer Trail to Echo Summit.

Nevada tourism honors South Shore and Carson Valley residents

The Nevada Division of Tourism recognized outstanding members of the state’s rural tourism industry at the VolunTourism Awards Dinner April 27 in Elko. The awards ceremony was a highlight of the state’s annual Rural Roundup conference.

“Tourism is a significant component of rural Nevada economies,” Claudia Vecchio, Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs director, said. “It is a $2.3 billion industry that continues to grow thanks to the efforts of the tourism professionals in rural Nevada. El Dorado County Public housing voucher wait list opens for first time in 8 years

For the first time since 2008, El Dorado County’s Public Housing Authority will open its Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List. The Housing Choice Voucher Rental Assistance Program (formerly known as Section 8) is funded by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and provides rental assistance to income qualified individuals and families. Applicants must be United States citizens or have eligible immigration status.

Low-cost flu vaccine clinics to start in South Lake Tahoe September 28

Low-cost community flu vaccination clinics will start in South Lake Tahoe on September 28 and on October 5 on the West Slope.

The El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, Public Health Nursing will be conducting the clinics through mid-November for just $10 per vaccine. No one will be denied service due to inability to pay.

Douglas County Commissioners propose two tax increases

Millions of dollars could be headed to the South Shore if the Douglas County Commissioners vote to increase gas tax by five cents and add an additional 0.25% infrastructure sales tax.

The Countywide Connectivity initiative looks at several projects both at the lake and in the valley that would address safety issues for walkers, cyclists and drivers while creating vibrate business districts that attract investment.

An online biking guide for cyclists of all abilities in the South Lake Tahoe, North Lake Tahoe, Truckee, Carson Valley and California Alps just been released. Bike Tahoe: Tahoe’s Ultimate Bicycling Guide, features 65 of the most popular bicycle rides in and around the Lake Tahoe Basin, and can be visited at www.BikeTahoe.org. Prescription Drug Take Back Day in Meyers on July 12

Prescription Drugs are potentially dangerous when they fall into the wrong hands. The abuse of certain prescription drugs— opioids, central nervous system (CNS) depressants, and stimulants—can lead to a variety of adverse health effects, including addiction.

To get unwanted, unused and expired prescription drugs off the street, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department will be holding a Drug Tahoe Back Day in the county on Sunday, July 12, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at several locations.

Pony Express Re-Ride through South Lake Tahoe

The romantic drama surrounding the Pony Express has made it a part of the legend of the American West. It lives on in an annual re-enactment that is taking place June 15 - 25, 2015.

On Monday, June 15, a rider left St. Joseph, headed for the same destination, and long the same trail, as riders were 155 years ago. They expect to be in Sacramento on June 25 at 11:30 a.m. As of Sunday, June 21 at 9 a.m., the rider was in Sandy, Utah.

History Sunday: The Pony Express Rides Again

Even though it lasted just 19 months, the Pony Express played an important role in the western expansion of the United States. The Pony Express was the most direct and practical means of east-west communications prior to the telegraph.

With the threat of the Civil War there was a need for faster communication with the growing number of people living in the West. Three men understood this need (William H. Russell, William B. Waddell, and Alexander Majors) and created the Pony Express.

Suspect dies after being arrested in El Dorado County

A man died early Thursday morning after being arrested by El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies in Pollock Pines.

At 4:30 a.m. this morning, deputies responded to a suspicious man who was sitting in a vehicle not belonging to him in the 6000 block of Pony Express Trail.

The man, a white male in his 60s, was uncooperative with deputies as they attempted to arrest him. He then started having medical issues and emergency personnel were called to the scene. The man was transported to Marshall Hospital where he died.

Rotarians clean out historic Osgood Toll House

Tahoe Douglas Rotarians spent Saturday cleaning out the historic Osgood Toll House, the oldest standing building in South Lake Tahoe. They took out hundreds of items including windows, doors, window frames, shutters and boards. After removing them they cataloged each item, cleaned and dried them and then stacked them back in the toll house.
