The Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra club gave away $21,000 on Thursday at their annual youth awards and scholarship ceremony.
The following are the categories and winners:
South Tahoe High School Scholarships
Sophie Caputa, headed to UC Santa Cruz to major in Political Science
Kamren Gronwold, headed to Feather River College to major in Equine Science
Isabel Leon, headed to LTCC and the plans to go to UC Davis to major in Chemical Engineering
Jocelyn Lopez, headed to Cal State Humboldt
Lek Wei Seow, headed to UC Merced to major in Micro-Biology
Community invited to Meet & Greet at Mt. Tallac High School

Mt. Tallac High School of South Lake Tahoe is inviting the community to stop by on the first day of school on August 29 and join them for what is becoming an annual meet and greet event from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
"We feel strongly that providing our students with the opportunity to meet and interact with potential employers and successful adults within our community will promote and support our efforts and the students' drive to give the school year their best effort," said Mt. Tallac High Principal Holly Greenough.

The Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra club (SITS) held their 2016 Youth Awards and Scholarships presentation Thursday, honoring students from Whittell High School, South Tahoe High, Mt. Tallac High and South Tahoe Middle School for their scholastic, community service and personal successes for the past school year.
The winners:
George Whittell High School Most Improved Eight Grade Student -- Sky Rosselle
South Tahoe Middle School Most Improved Eight Grade Students--Madison Dial Tuttle, Dylan Sanders

New student interns announced for Mt. Tallac High School to Career Program

Mt. Tallac High School would like to congratulate the following students for being chosen as the first round of interns to participate in the Mt. Tallac High School, School to Career program. Interns will learn job skills by working with school personnel in various jobs after school. After spending 3 months interning, attending counseling, and working on job readiness skills students will be placed for internships at South Tahoe Refuse our career partner as well as various local businesses. Our hope is that these students will gain the necessary skills to obtain employment in the community.

The students at Mt. Tallac High School may not be experiencing the traditional path to graduation, but they are now going to experience a new one focused on work ethic and careers.
The dynamic duo team of Holly Greenough and Amy Jackson are beginning Phase Two of what they started last year, a program that takes students from school to career. The students that attend Mt. Tallac are the ones that stay in town, unlike others who take the college path and leave town and start a career and families elsewhere.
