Sierra Nevada Ballet's The Last Unicorn

In two acts and a prologue, the ballet tells the story of the last Unicorn left on earth who journeys far to save the rest of her race- ( Unicorns who have been captured and held prisoners by the cruel King Haggard and his servant, the evil Red Bull). On her journey, the Unicorn encounters several entertaining characters including the witch, Mommy Fortuna; an evil, Monster Bird; a fun-loving Butterfly; a wonderful maidservant, Molly Grue, and the hilarious would-be Magician, Schmendrick who turns the Unicorn into a Princess to help disguise her and save her from the Red Bull.

2017 Shakespeare Showcase lineup announced, tickets on sale

This year’s Shakespeare Showcase Series performances at Sand Harbor in Lake Tahoe include the Sierra Nevada Ballet, the Reno Philharmonic with pop, rock, jazz, the Alexander Hamilton Chautauqua and Trails & Vistas World Concert.

Peanutcracker Returns to Carson City and Reno

The Sierra Nevada Ballet will present the popular “Peanutcracker – The Story in a Nut Shell” on Dec. 6 in the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Based on Lev Ivanov‘s original ballet “The Nutcracker,” Peanutcracker is a shorter, 45-minute narrated version that is “designed for families with younger children to introduce them to the wonderful world of ballet,” noted Rosine Bena, Artistic Director of the Sierra Nevada Ballet who wrote and choreographed this traditional holiday show.

Jazz For the Holidays Show Set for December 20th

With the holiday season now in full swing, it’s only appropriate that the Reno Jazz Orchestra (RJO) brings Jazz for the Holidays to Northern Nevada for all to enjoy on December 20, 2013 at The Nightingale Hall - University of Nevada. Accompanying the accomplished musicians of the RJO are vocalists Cami Thompson and Kenn Pettiford, international Tap star Sam Weber and performers from the Sierra Nevada Ballet under the direction of Rosine Bena. The Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Vern Scarbrough, will open the holiday performance which starts at 7:30 pm.

Sierra Nevada Ballet Presents 'Giselle' featuring Dance, Music and More

The Sierra Nevada Ballet takes the stage this summer to present "Giselle," which is possibly the best-loved of all the world's ballets. This profound folk tale comes to life through music, drama and over 30 professional dancers who will share this story of doomed love ... complete with jealousy, madness and vengeful ghosts. According to the ballet’s artistic director Rosine Bena, “Giselle is steeped in the tradition of ballet and conveys the poetry that makes this great production a must see this summer.”
