TRPA recognizes 9 Lake Tahoe projects for Best of the Basin awards

STATELINE, Nev. - Nine projects were honored as "Best in the Basin" Wednesday during the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) board meeting.

For 28 years TRPA's program has showcased projects around the lake that demonstrate exceptional planning, implementation, and compatibility with Tahoe’s natural environment and communities.

he Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) on Wednesday recognized 15 exceptional projects completed in 2016 with Best in Basin awards.

Now in its 27th year, TRPA’s Best in Basin awards program each year showcases projects around the lake that demonstrate exceptional planning, implementation, and compatibility with Tahoe’s natural environment and communities.

Owners of Hard Rock Lake Tahoe respond to contractor's legal action

On Monday, a story hit local media about legal papers filed in Douglas County court by SMC Construction, Inc against Neva One, LLC, the owners of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe.

In that suit, SMC alleged Neva One failed to pay them over $9 million on the remodeling of the old Horizon Casino. This amount represents expenses over the original contract according to SMC who was the contractor for renovations to the casino low-rise portion of the hotel/casino complex.

Contractor seeks $9 million from owners of Lake Tahoe Hard Rock Hotel & Casino

SMC Construction Company has filed paperwork in Douglas County Court, seeking payment of $9,654,575.02 they say Neva One, LCC, and Jon and David Park still owe them on construction of the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel in Stateline, Nevada.

The detailed legal documents state that SMC Construction and Neva One, LLC had come to the agreement of $9,645,121 for the remodel on the former Horizon Casino on August 6, 2014. Updated plans changed hands several times, even after the work began according to the paperwork filed in court.

South Lake Tahoe schools to be featured on Larry King show, In View

Lake Tahoe Unified School District has been chosen to be one of 12 school districts in the state to be featured in the Larry King hosted show on FOX Business Network. In View.

Superintendent Dr. Tarwater was contacted by the show's Senior Producer about the opportunity to be part of the educational television program. The show will be a special edition, half-hour program focusing on the state of education.

The Walls Came Tumbling Down....

The City of South Lake Tahoe issued a press release last week, inviting the public to a 9 a.m. ceremony on Monday morning to witness the long awaited removal of the fence at The Chateau Project near Stateline. Apparently the contractors on the project, SMC Contracting, had a different time frame in mind because when dignitaries, the press and the public showed up, the fence was already down.

The concrete barriers were all that remained along Highway 50, with some metal fencing and barriers remaining on the Stateline Avenue side.

Lake Tahoe planning agency announces 2011 Best in The Basin award winners

Recognized for stewardship and care taken in the building and construction of developments around Lake Tahoe, the 22nd annual Best in the Basin awards were announced Tuesday by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.
The TRPA, which sets policy for development around Lake Tahoe, will recognize the winners, listed below, during the 2011 Best in the Basin awards presentation during the meeting of its Governing Board on Wednesday, Feb. 22 in Stateline. Go here for the agenda.
