Quiet Council Meeting Yields Interim Budget

The South Lake Tahoe City Council met Tuesday to pass an interim budget in an effort to have more time to work out labor negotiation and budget shortfall issues that have the community up in arms. There were no comments offered by council or the public, and the motion passed unanimously. Prior to the meeting there was a closed session for bargaining units to meet, and following was another closed session for council to hear the latest of the negotiations.

Smoke from Sept. 12 fire continues to makes its way into Meyers, South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 09/27/2011 - 5:08pmSteady wind has pushed large amounts of smoke from a fire burning since Sept. 12 south of Highway 50 near Strawberry into Christmas Valley, Meyers and South Lake Tahoe this afternoon.
El Dorado Forest Service officials report the lightning-caused Long Fire, which has burned about 275 acres in timber and brush, is about 85 percent contained and poses no risk to life or property. The fire is burning at around 7,000 feet in the Packsaddle Pass area, three miles southwest of Strawberry in El Dorado County.
City Council Buying Time on Budget

Traffic at 'Y' tied up as police and fire called on separate incidents
Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 09/26/2011 - 2:40pmSouth Lake Tahoe police and fire were called at about 2:30 this afternoon to Raley's at the"Y" after a report of a woman not breathing inside a car with two small children inside. First responders at the scene reported via police scanner dispatch that a second ambulance was needed for the children, reportedly an 18-month-old and a 3-year old. The children appear OK. About a block away, a fight involving several subjects was also reported. Initial police scanner reports came in that there was a window that was broken.

Motorcycles will start at the Horizon Casino at Stateline beginning at 10 a.m. and parade down Highway 50, led by Santa Claus, to the Lake Tahoe Airport. Entertainment will include raffle prizes, auction, barbecue, and live music featuring the Cash Only band and Deep Fryed Mojo playing from noon to 8 p.m.
