Nevada State Parks celebrates 2012 with free New Year's Day guided hikes

The Nevada Division of State Parks is sponsoring free, guided hikes in seven state parks on New Year’s Day as part of America’s State Parks First Day Hikes initiative.
First Day Hikes offer individuals and families an opportunity to begin the New Year rejuvenating and connecting with the outdoors by taking a healthy hike on January 1, 2012 at a state park close to home.

Art hikes at Spooner Lake Sept. 17 and 18

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. – Plan to participate in the region’s only art hike. Experience live performances and installation art along a gentle 2.5 mile guided trail around Spooner Lake. This is a one of a kind blending of art and nature with thirty fellow hikers during Trails and Vistas 2011 art hike along the Spooner Loop Trail.

Experience a unique blend of art and the natural world during the eighth annual Trails and Vistas art hike on Sept. 17 and Sept. 18. The hike, modeled on the theme of “Reflections and Rhythms,” takes place at Spooner Lake in Lake Tahoe-Nevada State Park (Glenbrook, NV ) – just fifteen from Incline Village and less than a one-hour drive from Reno, Carson City, South Lake Tahoe and Truckee.

Paddlers Help Protect Lake Tahoe from Invasive Species

Paddlers at Lake Tahoe who enjoy the peace and solitude of skimming over crystal clear waters can now join the Tahoe Keepers stewardship community to protect Lake Tahoe from aquatic invasive species, according to an invasive species multi-agency committee.

Tahoe Keepers is a free training program designed to help non-motorized watercraft operators guard against inadvertently transporting aquatic invasive species to water bodies within the Lake Tahoe Basin by self-inspecting and decontaminating their boats and gear after each use.
