Public campground fees to increase by $2 at Lake Tahoe

Due to increased costs of doing business, fees at campgrounds operated by California Land Management on National Forest System lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin will rise by $2 this season.

Camping fees will increase at Fallen Leaf (now $30), Meeks Bay (now $25), William Kent (now $25), Kaspian (now $17) and Nevada Beach (now $30 for regular sites, $34 for premium sites) campgrounds. Even with the fee increase, CLM campgrounds are below the cost of privately operated campgrounds in the basin. The fees at Bayview Campground, beaches and day-use areas remain the same.

Two percent TOT funds Tahoe City project; future money for Kings Beach

The existing 2 percent Transient Occupancy Tax, which is up for renewal on the June 5, 2012 ballot, has funded a number of North Lake Tahoe public improvement projects and services since voters first authorized it in 1996.

The renewal, called Measure F, is not a tax increase and, if passed, would continue to be paid by lodging guests only via the TOT bed tax when they spend the night in North Lake Tahoe. North Lake Tahoe residents would not be taxed under Measure F.

Tahoe gets a splash of color

One utility box, one Dumpster and one wall at a time, South Lake Tahoe is getting a little brighter, a little more colorful and a lot more artsy. Over the past three years, a South Lake Tahoe family and a youth art group called the Sphere of Influence have been painting dozens of the bland green boxes, trash bins and concrete walls. Their vibrant designs are now noticeable on the sides of many city streets.

Some of you may receive cards, flowers, a phone call from a friend, a nice romantic dinner or even a marriage proposal. Some of you will spend the day alone, avoiding the satin heart mayhem and gooey sentimental couples that inevitably come with the traditions of February 14th.

Blight in Bonanza neighborhood gets recycled

Often it’s the quick demolition route developers will take to get rid of one project to build another. Materials are thrown in the trash with no consideration for their reuse potential.
