Controlled Burns Continue Around Lake Tahoe Basin

Fuels management crews from the U.S. Forest Service will be in various locations around the Lake Tahoe Basin the week of March 30, 2014. Possible locations include Slaughterhouse Canyon on the East Shore, the Luther Pass Campground off of Highway 89 near South Lake Tahoe, the west side of Highway 89 near Tahoma, and near D.L. Bliss State Park on the West Shore.
Operations are ongoing and depend on weather, staffing, and conditions. Locations could vary due to changing conditions.
South Lake Tahoe Police K9 Trials

Fifty canine (K9) teams are expected at this year's South Lake Tahoe Police Canine Association's annual K9 trials on October 5.
This K9 Trial will determine the top K9 Teams for the year. This fun event is open to the public and starts around 8:00 AM at the Babe Ruth Baseball fields at 1090 Lyons Avenue. The rest of the events will take place at various locations around the city.

Douglas County authorities seek public help in solving Carson Valley burglaries
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 01/17/2013 - 4:56pmDouglas County Sheriff's Office investigators are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspects responsible for several burglaries that occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Jan. 15.
The unknown suspects committed burglaries at four separate locations in Douglas County; including a commercial burglary at the Genoa Bar, two burglaries at unoccupied homes in a residential neighborhood in Genoa, and several vehicle burglaries at two local auto repair shops in Gardnerville.

Six yearling bears nursed at Lake Tahoe are returned back to Mother Nature
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 04/11/2012 - 9:09amRehabilitated through Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, a total of six orphaned bear cubs have been returned to the wild this spring, ending the California Department of Fish and Game's 2012 yearling bear release program.
The cubs were found in various locations around the state in the summer months of 2011 and were rehabilitated at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care prior to being judged ready to return to the wild. The state program is ongoing and will continue as new cubs come into the facility.

While South Shore is lucky to have Howie Nave as the emcee of all things standup comedy, Ewing, known around town as "Don the Baker," knows he can't compete on the same stage.
"I'm not really not funny," he says. "I'm not rich, either. I'm a baker's man who kneads dough."
