South Lake Tahoe WWII veteran rides in B-17 again after 75 years
Submitted by Anonymous on Sun, 11/10/2019 - 11:30pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Danny Francisco was still in high school when he enlisted to serve his country, and just days after graduation he was on his way to train.
The 95-year-old Army Air Corps veteran was given a chance to fly again in a B-17, 75 years after his last flight.
Phil Ward of South Lake Tahoe was delivering meals to local senior citizens when he met Danny and heard his story. Phil's son Eric created the video in this story which features an interview and flight.

November 6, 2019 - 6:30pm The Lake Tahoe Unified School District Performing Arts Department Presents: A Veteran’s Musical Tribute on Wednesday, November 6 in the South Tahoe Middle School Multi-Purpose room.
The free concert starts at 6:30 p.m.
This concert is a wonderful tribute to the men and women who have served or are currently serving our country in the various branches of the military. The Music Department invites all veterans and their families to attend the concert to honor and thank them for their brave and selfless duty.
Sierra House Elementary not opening on the first day of school August 26

South Tahoe Now had spoken to the school district on Wednesday and at that time they were still hoping to have the school open by August 26.

Rotarians honor Lake Tahoe area veterans

Club member Brian Williams, US Marines (retired), organized this year's event as he does each year, inviting local veterans for lunch and a program. The Marine Corps 242nd birthday fell on the event this year, and the former Marine had a special birthday for the attendees to enjoy.
Veterans from WWII to Vietnam honored at Barton Skilled Nursing

This annual celebration included singing, refreshments and introduction of those six who now live at Skilled Nursing but served their country during the Vietnam War, Korea War and/or World War II.
Scouting for Food to help those in need in South Lake Tahoe

November 11, 2017 - 10:00am South Lake Tahoe Boy Scout Troop 594 is partnering with American Legion Post 795 for the 2017 Scouting for Food collection on Saturday, November 11.
Please bring your donated food items to the American Legion, 2748 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., prior to their Veteran's Day Ceremony which begins at 11:00 a.m.
Please join them as they help provide for those in need, and to also recognize those who have served in our Nation’s Armed Forces.
No glass containers or perishable food please.

Soroptimists honor local women serving in the military

An emotional Sheryll Valencia spoke of why she joined the Army in 2004 and made three deployments to Iraq and now works for David & Johnson, Ltd in South Lake Tahoe. "It's important to always remember the ones who sacrificed their lives," Sheryll told the women gathered for Thursday's Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra meeting.

Support the performing arts at South Tahoe High School

They are a non-profit organization that was created to provide support to the students and staff of the Tahoe Arts & Design Academy (TADA) at the school.
Community members can join for free. PABA also needs donors and volunteers to
- help assist with production costs of musicals, plays and concerts
- provide funds for guest teachers and student scholarships
