Former South Lake Tahoe City Attorney Cathy DiCamillo is back on the payroll. She started this week as interim deputy city attorney. She will be working for Nira Feeley, who is interim city attorney until Tom Watson takes the helm July 8.

Fire restrictions begin Monday in the Lake Tahoe Basin

Fire restrictions will go into effect in the Lake Tahoe Basin on Monday July 9. A Forest Order has been issued to provide for public safety through the end of the official 2012 fire season. (see PDF below.)
Campfires, including charcoal barbecues, are prohibited except in exempted recreation sites. Smoking on National Forest land is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, or within an exempted recreation site. Fire restrictions are intended to reduce the possibility of human-caused wildfires over the summer season.

Movie Review: Spielberg's 'War Horse' is a warm and bitter tale

Director-producer Steven Spielberg's film "War Horse," currently showing at Heavenly Village Cinema in South Lake Tahoe and elsewhere, is fine movie making, with a splendid cast. If it sinks into sentimentality at times, bear with it because the story, from a British children's book of 1982.

Anonymous donor gives $25K to Thunderbird Preservation Society, seeks match

An anonymous donor who presented $25,000 to the Thunderbird Preservation Society has offered a second donation for the same amount on the condition the public can match it by Thanksgiving, according to a news release.

Two Tahoe museums recognize Smithsonian Museum Day

Museum Day is an annual event sponsored by Smithsonian Magazine. On Saturday, Sept. 24, two Lake Tahoe area museums will join hundreds more across the country, opening their doors and providing free admission.
