Nevada public health agencies urge residents to get vaccinated for Pertussis

Due to the recent increase in pertussis (whooping cough) cases in Carson City, Douglas and Lyon Counties, the health departments in those communities are reminding members of the community to get vaccinated.
Carson City and Douglas County on high alert for Whooping Cough

There has been an increase of positive pertussis, which is commonly known as whooping cough, in the Carson City and Douglas County areas of Nevada.
The Disease Control and Prevention Division at Carson City Health & Human Services (CCHHS) oversees disease surveillance and investigations in Carson City and Douglas County and is currently investigating the increase.
At this time, CCHHS is reporting the outbreak as an isolated event; however, the Health Department is encouraging families in the community to take preventive measures.
No Whooping Cough outbreak in South Lake Tahoe

Rumors were flying around schools and on social media in South Lake Tahoe this week about a Whooping Cough (pertussis) outbreak at Tahoe Valley Elementary. A 4th grade student became sick with symptoms that resemble pertussis, but that cannot be confirmed for two weeks.

Whooping cough has made an alarming resurgence across the county this year, prompting health officials to call for booster shots for children and adults over the age of 11 as well as up to date immunizations for infants.
Local health officials have seen more than double the normal number of pertussis (whooping cough) cases this year. There have been six reported cases in South Lake Tahoe and four on the west slope of El Dorado County. Statewide there have been 3,458 cases since January 1.
Whopping Cough Warning Sent Out to South Tahoe High Parents

Two possible cases of pertussis, also known as whooping cough, were reported at South Tahoe High. A letter from El Dorado County Health & Human Services was emailed to South Tahoe High parents Friday evening, warning them of the probable cases.
