
The 12th annual Reno Tahoe Odyssey will take runners from Reno, north of Verdi, down to Boca Reservoir, Truckee, down to South Lake Tahoe, over to Virginia City and back to Reno starting Friday afternoon, June 3. The event this year is 178 miles long, has 260 teams which split up 36 legs of the race, and they don’t stop as the sun drops, they run all night long.
South Shore residents should see the runners through town with lights attached to their heads as they make their way through town after dark. Leg 15 of the race starts at the Emerald Bay parking lot and ends at Taylor Creek Visitor’s Center. The next racer will run on ST89 to 15th street to Venice Drive and Tahoe Keys Blvd. The next leg’s racer then proceeds up Tahoe Keys Blvd to Hwy 50 and over to Al Tahoe Blvd and Lake Tahoe Community College. Leg 18 then takes the runner from the college, down Johnson Blvd, around the Bijou Golf Course to Blackwood Ave, then on to Tamarack Avenue, down Ski Run to Hwy 50 and ending at the Stateline Raleys. The last runner for the area then runs to Kingsbury Grade and to the top of Daggett Pass.
Each team is made up of about 15 runners, with the average length for each participate about 11.7 miles.
Racers start in Reno on Friday with staggered start times based on each team member’s 10K race times. Waves of teams start every 15 to 30 minutes. The slower seeded teams will begin around 9 a.m. and the faster seeded teams will begin in the afternoon. See a full list of teams and their start times HERE.
