The identity of the 18-year-old killed in this week’s fatal crash on US50 has been released, and his family has started a GoFundMe to give Sergio Gutiérrez García Jr. the send-off they say he deserves as they try to heal.
The following is from that fundraiser:
Our family is heartbroken as we share the unimaginable loss of Sergio Gutiérrez García Jr., whose life was tragically cut short in a car accident. It is still difficult to put into words the weight of this pain. Sergio was not only a son, a brother, and a friend—he was a light in our lives, someone whose presence made every day a little warmer, a little brighter.
Sergio had a way of making people feel seen. Whether he was laughing with family, lending a hand without being asked, or offering a quiet moment of comfort, he carried a gentle strength that touched everyone around him. He worked hard, loved deeply, and always put others first. Losing him so suddenly has left a space in our lives that can never be filled.
As we navigate this devastating moment, our family is doing everything we can to honor Sergio with the dignity, love, and respect he deserves. However, the financial burden of funeral and memorial expenses has become overwhelming. In this time of grief, we are humbly asking for support from our community—any contribution, no matter the amount, will help us give Sergio the farewell he deserves and allow our family the space to focus on healing. We are deeply grateful for every message, every prayer, every act of kindness. Thank you for keeping Sergio’s memory alive in your hearts and for standing with our family during the most difficult time of our lives.
With love and gratitude,
The Gutiérrez García Family
