SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Combine two of the favorite things to do during the holidays - giving back and watching Hallmark movies - at the next Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT) fundraiser. They are hosting an exclusive screening of Hallmark Channel’s A Reason for the Season, featuring Taylor Cole who is a local and BGCLT board member.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe City Council welcomed two new members at their meeting on Tuesday, December 10. Keith Roberts and David Jinkens won their seats in the November election and were sworn in. They join current council members Cody Bass, Tamara Wallace, and Scott Robbins.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area which includes South Lake Tahoe, Tahoe City, Truckee, Stateline, Markleeville, Glenbrook, and Incline Village.

The advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 4 p.m. Thursday.

ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. - Congratulations to George Whittell High School which was named to the 2024 AP School Honor Roll with a Platinum distinction! The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results and broadening access for students. During the 2023 school
year the school was recognized with a Silver Distinction.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Announcements are being made for the 2025 outdoor concert series at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena, with Grammy Award Winner Creed the latest to announce their stop.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Celebrating adventure sports cinematography and culture, the Tahoe Adventure Film Festival (TAFF) returns as the annual gathering for the outdoor adventure community. This electrifying event features music, go-go dancers, wild entertainers, and dramatic action imagery—all before the films begin.

For one night only, the industry’s top filmmakers premiere their latest adventure sports films, hosted by festival creator and adventurer Todd Offenbacher.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The last South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting of 2024 will be held on Tuesday, December 10 at 5:30 p.m. in City Council chambers at the airport. DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - There will be a change on the Douglas County School District (DCSD) Board in the new year, with the election bringing on three new faces and possibly switching the board majority from the past two years.

TAHOE CITY, Calif, - From expert panel sessions about backcountry safety to on-the-snow events hosted by some of Lake Tahoe’s finest backcountry guides, the fifth annual Tahoe Backcountry Safety Awareness Week is chock full of events curated by Take Care Tahoe. From December 9-15, 2024, both novice and experienced backcountry users will have opportunities to learn how to safely recreate in the backcountry this winter.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The students from Lake Tahoe Unified School District are holding an instrumental concert on December 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the South Tahoe High TADA Theater.

The South Tahoe High and South Tahoe Middle School bands and orchestras, along with the high school's Jazz Band will be performing.

The high school is located at 1735 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe.

The South Lake Tahoe community is rallying around an incredible local family to raise funds and seek support as they navigate a heartbreaking journey. Keely, a compassionate and selfless nurse at Barton Community Hospital, has dedicated her life to caring for others. Today, she and her husband Dylan need all of the support they gain as they embark on the biggest challenge of their lives.

Did you feel it? A 5.7 magnitude earthquake rattled the Western Nevada region at just after 3 p.m. Monday. The epicenter of the initial quake of 5.7M was 16 miles north, northeast of Yerington.

Since that time there have been over two dozen aftershocks up to 5.5M, with more possible.

As of 4 p.m. Monday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) has thousands of comments on its "Did You Feel It?" website. Those reporting are from the San Francisco area to Susanville, including Lake Tahoe.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Santa's Breakfast at Tahoe Valley Elementary School this past weekend was a great celebration of the holidays provided by the school's Parent Teacher Association.

About 400 people enjoyed pancakes, sausages, fruit, juice, hot chocolate, and coffee which was provided to students and their families free of charge. Each grade level also created themed baskets for a raffle, the only portion of the day that was a fundraiser.

On hand were two legends, Santa Claus and the Tahoe Knight Monster mascot - both a big hit with the kids!

They say it takes a village, and it took a village to bring this year's Christmas Tree to the Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe. This is by far the most beautiful tree we have set up in the ten years we have been doing this for our community.

Nevada’s nonrestricted gaming licensees reported a total “gaming win” of $1,286,209,664 for October 2024, according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board's latest monthly report. This amounts to a 2.19 percent decrease compared to the same month a year ago when licensees reported a gaming win of $1,314,955,517. For the fiscal year, the gaming win has decreased by 2.48 percent with $5,069,678,195 in "win".

The "gaming win" represents the computed income of casinos before business expenses and taxes.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is a cold front heading to the region, bringing some brisk winds and chilly weather Sunday night through Tuesday. It will be quick though as warmer temperatures are expected for the latter half of the week with highs in the 50s at Lake Tahoe.

There is finally a chance for an unsettled weather pattern on Thursday and into the weekend, with light showers possible along with gusty winds and mountain snow.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County libraries, including the branch in South Lake Tahoe, are now fine-free! As of December 4th, 2024, they will no longer charge fees for overdue items or DVD rentals.

Fees for damaged or lost items will still apply, however there will no longer be a processing fee (some exceptions may apply). Charges still apply for printing, Interlibrary Loans, collections referral, and exam proctoring.

Items DO need to be returned within 21 days of the due date, or accounts, including access to the digital library, will be blocked.

The Elves did it again!! They visited the South Lake Tahoe Children's Memorial Tree in the park at Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Wildwood Avenue for the 14th straight year, leaving behind signs of Christmas with stockings and decorations.

There is a stocking at the tree for each of the over 260 children memorialized there.
