LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – The Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team (TFFT) Fall Prescribed Fire Program continues this week around Lake Tahoe, conditions and weather permitting. North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District may burn piles around Incline Village, Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District may burn piles near Glenbrook, Logan Creek, and on Kingsbury Grade, and the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit may burn piles off Luther Pass near the campground and off Fallen Leaf and Spring Creek roads near South Lake Tahoe.

It takes a lot of work to keep Tahoe beachable, bikeable, hikeable, boatable, skiable, and enjoyable for all. In fact, it takes the whole community to Keep Tahoe Blue. That’s why the League to Save Lake Tahoe partners with businesses throughout the Tahoe Basin and beyond as part of its Tahoe Blue Business program.

“The goal of the Blue Business program is to help businesses, help the lake, and uplift them as leaders in our community at the same time,” said the League’s Strategic Partnerships Manager, Hailey Hawkins.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There will be a pop-up consignment shop at Woods Apothecary in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, November 23 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be vintage, designer, one-of-a-kind, and elevated festival gear featured. Support local women as they sell their excellent condition, pre-loved clothing, accessories, shoes, and apparel at beyond-fair prices.

They will accept cash or Venmo only.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe has been trying to get Heavenly Mountain Resort to support its plans to annex the land where the California operations are located. Heavenly is an island in the middle of the South Lake Tahoe city limits, leaving it to be serviced by El Dorado County while those going to enjoy the resort use city streets and services.

Twice weekly, Bread & Broth (B&B) offers a meal service to anyone in the community who wants to enjoy a nutritious meal and the camaraderie of other locals. On Mondays, full-course meals and bags of food are provided at the Monday Meal served at St. Theresa’s Grace Hall, and then every Friday, a simple entrée, soup, and salad are offered at the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team (TFFT) forest thinning (fuels reduction) projects are underway and scheduled to continue through fall 2024, conditions and weather permitting. North Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Douglas fire protection districts, Liberty Utilities, NV Energy, and the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit are working together to protect Lake Tahoe communities by reducing excess vegetation that can feed unwanted wildfires.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – The 2025 Lake Tahoe Basin Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) has been updated to reflect the evolving needs of our communities and landscape. CWPPs are community-driven plans prioritizing wildfire risk reduction, using local input and data to guide fuel reduction, improve preparedness, and address structural ignitability and wildfire response.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The next South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting is on Tuesday, November 19 at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at the airport. The agenda is a full one.

Two of the items are public hearings - The possible amendment to adopt a new demolition permit fee of $480 to the master fee schedule, and an employee housing ordinance.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Community College’s Equity and Student Wellness Program and Ally Club, along with Lake Tahoe Pride, extend a warm and open invitation to community members for a 2nd annual Friendsgiving dinner event on Wednesday, November 20. The dinner is from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Student Center at Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC).

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The El Dorado County Sheriff's Search and Rescue (EDSAR) team was dispatched to Mt. Tallac late Wednesday night after receiving a call about a lost hiker near the top of the mountain.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - To start the week ahead in South Lake Tahoe the National Weather Service (NWS) Reno has issued a Lake Wind Advisory which is in place until 4 a.m. Monday. Expect rain, mountain snow showers, and gusty winds overnight through early Monday morning. Expect chilly temperatures to continue through Tuesday.

Conditions quickly improve on Monday morning. Although it will be quite chilly through Tuesday, due to the cold airmass staying put until the next system approaches the region by mid-week. Chances of showers midweek for Tahoe with dry conditions likely elsewhere.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Tahoe High School (STHS) is seeking volunteer judges for the semi-annual Senior Project presentations in 2025 are January 24, 2025, and May 29, 2025. Over the years, natural attrition has thinned the ranks of our community judges, and we are looking to increase our numbers by reaching out to interested members of the South Lake Tahoe community for help.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - As part of a nationwide effort to protect communities from lead exposure, South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) is encouraging residents to help identify the material of their water service line. While no lead water service lines have been identified in South Lake Tahoe to date, residents with unknown service line materials are urged to follow five easy steps to determine the material of their water line.

For over 45 years Heavenly Ski Resort has taken advantage of this community in numerous ways.

1) In 1978 Heavenly went to the Lake Tahoe Unified School District requesting the District stop using the ski lift the District installed at the high school insisting it would ruin their business.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Douglas County has announced the selection of Wendy Lang as its new assistant county manager. Lang brings nearly 11 years of experience with Douglas County, including nine years as the Director of Human Resources. During her tenure, she has played a pivotal role in leading key initiatives and driving organizational transitions, most recently as acting assistant county manager where she was instrumental in transitioning the governance of China Spring Youth Camp and developing the Douglas County Strategic Plan.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Heavenly Mountain Resort and Palisades Tahoe have announced they will both be opening early, with lifts starting Wednesday, November 20 at Heavenly and Friday, November 22 at Palisades.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Just in time to work off the extra calories after Thanksgiving so you can add more during Christmas, the South Tahoe High Track Team is holding its annual Santa Run on Saturday, December 7 at 11 a.m. at the South Tahoe Middle School track.

This fundraising event is a fun and joyous one, meant to spread holiday cheer and bring the community together in a festive celebration of giving.

"My face hurts from laughing the whole time," says my friend Courtney when I ask for her impression of Act 1 of Guilty Christmas, currently playing at Valhalla Boathouse Theatre. This was Night Two of the five-night stint, and wow, what a show! Nine actors make up this incredible ensemble cast, well really, they're all triple threats - acting, singing, and dancing their way through a very clever production that showcases our town and all of its idiosyncrasies.
