Writer in the Woods: Rebecca Makkai

Event Date:
February 12, 2016 - 7:00pm

Fiction writer Rebecca Makkai will visit SNC Tahoe February 12 and 13 as part of SNC Tahoe's Writers in the Woods program. This long-standing literary speaker series brings well-known poets and writers from all over the country to the campus for intimate readings and workshops, where audience members can meet and exchange ideas with the guest writers.

Readings are held Friday evenings from 7 – 9pm. They are free and open to the public.

Workshops are held Saturday mornings from 9am – noon. They can be taken for credit and are free to students, $50 for community members

Makkai’s short fiction piece, “Gossip” was featured on This American Life; The Hundred-Year House was the Chicago Writers Association’s Novel of the Year, The Borrower was a Booklist Top Ten Debut, and her short fiction was chosen for The Best American Short Stories in 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2008.

"Rebecca Makkai is one of our best writers—witty and precise, brilliant and compassionate — and every one of these stories contains all the depth and heartache of a doorstop-sized novel. I’ve been waiting for years for this book."
- Molly Antopol, author of The Un-Americans (National Book Award longlist)

Makkai has been a visiting writer for the SNC Tahoe low-residency MFA program in Creative Writing and will be a faculty member in the January 2017 residency.
