Valorie Jean Turley ~ 1953 - 2019

Valorie Jean Turley left our presence Sunday, January 13, 2019.
Valorie leaves three children, Jeremy Houston Sheldon, Jerrad Joseph Sheldon, of
Carson City, Nevada; and Kourtny Jean Sheldon of Las Vegas, Nevada.

As well as her three children, she leaves a daughter-in-law, Veronica (Mrs. Jeremy Sheldon) and beloved grandchildren, Helen Bernice Sheldon and Garrett Sheldon.

“To describe my mother is to write about a hurricane in its perfect power. Or the climbing falling colors of a rainbow.” (Maya Angelou)

Valorie was born June 12, 1953, at St' Francis Hospital, Lynwood, California, to Dorothe Jeanne (Conrey) And Harold James Turley.

She was joined in the nursery on December 6, 1954, by Jeffrey Harold Turley and January 25, 1958, by Lynn Ann Turley. And the house was filled with laughter and love.

Valorie spent her school years on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, overlooking Catalina Island. She attended Ridgecrest Middle School and Rolling Hills High School. As a member of Juniorettes, Valorie was presented at the Debutante Ball, held at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Soon after, she met and married Gene Richard Sheldon, at St. Peter’s By The Sea.
Following the Northridge Earthquake, they moved to Carson City Nevada with son Jeremy and new daughter Kourtny. The following year, 1980, Jerrad Joseph, completed the family.

Valorie became a powerhouse for children. She fought for taking Halloween off the streets since it fell on Nevada Days. She helped organize and run school carnivals held on the safety of the school grounds. She also single-handedly gathered enough funds from the business community to build a handball court on school grounds. After Val and Gene divorced, she was married for a short time to Robert Belknap III.

Valorie was blessed with the arrival of her beloved granddaughter, Helen Bernice, in 2006. She adored her grandchildren, spending time with them as often as was possible, supporting her grandson with his JROTC work through high school or working on a craft he had seen or playing with her granddaughter and the dogs,
some of her favorite times were spent with her grandkids.

Valorie was living in South Lake Tahoe, California, at the time of her death with her longtime boyfriend, Carver Marquardt.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Carson City Women’s Shelter, 32 Sierra Avenue, Carson City, NV 89702.
