SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With five different counties in two different states surrounding Lake Tahoe, there are different procedures concerning COVID-19 vaccines depending on which area one resides. As more doses of the vaccine become available, each county is in charge of its own vaccination rollout. Most in California will be vaccinated at community vaccination sites, doctor’s offices, clinics or pharmacies, depending on their county's plans.

On the Nevada side of the lake the state has developed "lanes" instead of the California side "tiers." All information is listed below.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office identifies man found under bridge

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - On Sunday, January 3, 2021, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) responded to the area north of the Cradlebaugh Bridge on Highway 395 after receiving a report of a dead body.

The responding deputies found a decomposed human body. After a three-week investigation, the body has been determined to be that of Claude Randall Withrow, a 61-year-old male from Carson City. Withrow’s cause of death is still under investigation at this time and no other information is available.

Extensive period of stormy weather for Lake Tahoe anticipated to start off 2021..

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is a notable change ahead for a more active weather pattern for the Sierra and western Nevada with multiple periods of strong winds, heavy mountain snow, along with valley rain and snow. This forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS) shows there be likely be significant travel impacts in the Sierra next week. Law enforcement prepares for possible New Year's Eve crowds on South Shore

Even with the current pandemic, New Year's revelers could still flock to the Stateline casino corridor and South Lake Tahoe on Thursday so law enforcement will be prepared. With no SnowGlobe this year due to the pandemic, and Heavenly Village New Year's Eve activities canceled, it is unknown as to what will take place in an area that at one time saw 50,000 people in the streets to bring in the new year. Last year it was estimated 7,000 to 8,000 people took to the streets at midnight at Stateline and 6,500 at Heavenly Village for its 9:00 p.m. fireworks.

South Shore casinos again perform better than most of Nevada

STATELINE, Nev. - Nevada’s non-restricted gaming licensees reported a total “gaming win” of $771,162,743 for the month of November 2020, the sixth month of casinos reopening in the state after being closed due to the coronavirus. Quick-moving Christmas weather system passes with another on its heels

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A late Christmas Day weather system dropped several inches of snow around Lake Tahoe. A second colder system will be on its heels Sunday night into Monday and will provide chances for another round of snow. Additional fast moving storms are possible going into 2021.

Bank of the West temporarily closed due to staffing shortage

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Bank of the West's South Lake Tahoe branch has had to close temporarily due to a staffing shortage. A representative at the bank's branch in Carson City said it is a COVID-related closure and some staff has been in quarantine as they await test results. This has been a problem at many area banks since the pandemic started.

Once staff can be assembled to reopen safely, expect the doors to the branch at 2161 Lake Tahoe Boulevard to open once again.

Suspect arrested on multiple charges after Douglas County Sheriff's deputy shot

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Two people have been arrested after a deputy from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) was shot late Sunday night.

Douglas County sheriff's deputy shot in neck; Two suspects arrested

A Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputy was shot and suffered serious injuries late Sunday night following an incident in Gardnerville. Two suspects are in custody.

The incident happened before 11:30 p.m. in the area of Gilman and Douglas streets, near Sharkey's casino, according to dispatch reports.

The condition of the officer is unknown at this time. He was flown by Care Flight to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center in Reno. According to dispatch, the deputy was struck by gunfire in the neck.

Chance of some rain, snow and cooler temperatures in the week ahead for Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A cold front will bring a chance of snow showers and winds to the Lake Tahoe Basin Monday night into Tuesday, with another chance on Christmas Day and next weekend. While there are no major storms on the horizon, any precipitation is welcome at this time.

"In God We Trust" sign added to Douglas County board chamber wall

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - A new "In God We Trust" display has been added to the wall of the Douglas County Board Chamber. In 2019, the County Commissioners passed a resolution supporting the display of the national motto in the chambers and after fundraising efforts the sign was created by the winning bidder, YESCO, LLC.

The new "In God We Trust" was installed during the commissioner's December 10, 2020 meeting.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Due to an internal issue at El Dorado County there will be no updates on figures Friday. They are reporting 90 new cases but no other information is available. Figures provided on Monday will include Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

We can tell you there are currently 25 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in the county with 9 of them in the ICU at Barton and Marshall. According to the State's website, 11 of the non-ICU patients and 3 of the ICU patients are in Barton, with 14/6 at Marshall. There are currently no suspected cases at Barton.

Barton Health starts vaccinating front line healthcare workers

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Barton Health has begun the process of inoculating its frontline healthcare workers at the South Lake Tahoe hospital. The first 500 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine were received from the State of California Thursday.

Doses received during the vaccine rollout in Phase 1a have been specifically allocated for healthcare workers and hospital Skilled Nursing Facility residents, under California’s tiered vaccination plan.

Coronavirus vaccines arrive in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The overnight snowstorm brought more than powder as the first shipment of the Pfitzer-BioNTech vaccine for the coronavirus arrived in South Lake Tahoe at Barton Hospital.

El Dorado County received a total of 975 doses with about five hundred doses shipped to South Lake Tahoe Thursday, Marshall Hospital in Placerville will receive theirs on Sunday. The local doses will be administered to Barton's healthcare workers and skilled nursing residents, beginning Friday, December 17.

Quick storm drops snow in Lake Tahoe Basin, Chain controls in place

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The snow is still falling this morning so totals are not yet available, but as ski resorts opened they were reporting 3"-4" with more coming. Temperatures were too high for snow at midnight, but they have since dropped allowing snow to start falling.

The Winter Storm Advisory expires at 10:00 a.m.

COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe area counties

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officers announced 121 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since yesterday. Of those, 14 are in El Dorado Hills, 2 in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, 39 in Greater Placerville, 15 in Diamond Springs/El Dorado, 15 in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz, 9 in North County, 4 in South County, 43 in Lake Tahoe region. 61 of the previously reported cases awaiting address confirmation have been assigned, leaving the pending address confirmation count at 45.

South Lake Tahoe Cancer League holding See's candy sale this weekend

The South Lake Tahoe Cancer League's annual See's Candy Sale will be at the American Legion Post #795 in the entry hall Saturday and Sunday, December 19/20 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Candy purchased from the Cancer League supports the monthly grants given to local cancer patients and reimburses volunteer drivers who take local patients to their appointments in Truckee, Sacramento, Carson Valley, and Reno.
