Second Annual 4th of July Parade and Event

Event Date:
July 4, 2013 (All day)

The Second Annual Fourth of July Parade and Event is sponsored this year by the American Legion Post #795 in South Lake Tahoe. The parade will stage in the parking lot of Big 5 at the Y, and begin traveling East at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 4, 2013. The parade will conclude at the American Legion Post #795 by 11:00 am.

The parade will feature veterans and active military personnel. Two of our local Gold Star Mom's will have cars in the parade in remembrance of their sons lost in battle, Sgt. Timothy Smith and Spec. Garrett Fant. There is no charge for veterans or active duty military to be in the parade, but they need to register through the parade producer, Golden Bear Events.

Businesses, service clubs, and families may also be in the parade. Last year featured a vintage garbage truck from South Tahoe Refuse, an antique military transport truck, vintage vehicles from the South Tahoe Alumni carrying elected officials and veterans, the Soroptimist "Fighting Chance" car, the "Banana Man" in the Jamba Juice car, Beachcomber Inn with a "surfin' USA" theme, Affordable Construction Services with employees in Uncle Sam hats, and the always popular South Lake Tahoe Fire Truck.

A celebration of our Independence will be held at the Legion from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. A short ceremony will be held honoring our veterans, then music, food, vendors, and fun will be available until mid-afternoon. Featured music will be performed by members of the renowned South Tahoe High School Blue Ribbon Choir, led by Mr. Paul Kushner. Vendors include accomplished author Elizabeth Rymer Patterson, who will be available to sign her books in the Bonners Fairy series.
