Letter: A positive change in the City Clerk's office with Sue Blankenship

Hello, my name is Susan Blankenship, Assistant City Clerk, and I am running for City Clerk of South Lake Tahoe.

I have served as the Assistant City Clerk since May 2016. Prior to coming to work for the City, I served as Board Clerk for the State Allocation Board and the Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board. These positions provided me with the work experience I needed to transition to working for the City Clerk’s Department.

This year has proven to be a busy one for me. In March, the former Assistant City Clerk, Ellen Palazzo who I am running against, resigned. In August, Susan Alessi, the former elected City Clerk retired leaving me in charge of the City Clerk’s Office. I took this opportunity to modernize a declining Department. I am developing a web portal that will give the public and city staff direct access to public documents in both the City Clerk and Planning Departments. I am implementing a citywide electronic agenda management system which will improve accountability and deliver an efficient, cohesive, paperless product to the City Council. Additionally, I am maximizing the use of the City’s television station (Channel 21) and will be live broadcasting City Council and Planning Commission meetings.

I have been working hard to streamline and improve the services the City Clerk’s Department provides. With your vote, I look forward to continuing my work and a seamless transition to serving as your Elected City Clerk.
