Nancy Kerry named the new town manager for Frisco, Colorado

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Former City Manager Nancy Kerry has been hired as the new town manager for Frisco, Colorado, a mountain hamlet that is an international skier destination due to its proximity to four resorts - Copper Mountain, Breckenridge, Keystone, and Arapahoe Basin.

"It is such a darling town, a truly magical place," Kerry told South Tahoe Now as she prepares to head to her new home. "It's magical in so many ways. When you are there you feel like you are in a special place. It's at the center of the ski resorts, the hub of all the activity in the Rockies. The Town has maintained their strong connection to their history, they have a very active and vibrant Main Street and they put on some of the best events including the best BBQ challenge in the state every summer."

There were over 50 applicants for the job that became open over three months ago when their former town manager resigned due to family obligations and opportunities in Denver, 70 miles to the east of Frisco.

"Nancy Kerry is a very dedicated, intelligent and original public servant," said South Lake Tahoe Mayor Brooke Laine. "Frisco will benefit from all her talents and resources as did the City of South Lake Tahoe."

"I loved living in, working for and serving South Lake Tahoe for the 12 years and am grateful for all of the relationships and friendships I've made over the years," said Kerry. "I have been really blessed by the outpouring of support among the community in recognition of my time here."

Kerry was honored on November 13 during a party where she was given a proclamation from the City of South Lake Tahoe. Dozens of local dignitaries joined in on thanking her for her service.

Before government, Nancy was a senior manager consultant with her father's company Vironex, Inc, a business where she was first exposed to politics, processes and government. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice and a master's in public administration from San Diego State.

Kerry has been in public service since taking an internship in Carlsbad after graduation. In 2001 she then moved to the City of Solano Beach's city manager office where she was the assistant to the city manager and senior management analyst. In 2007, Kerry moved to South Lake Tahoe where she was vice president of public affairs for the Tahoe Chamber, and then in 2008 she moved to the City where she started as assistant to the city manager and redevelopment and housing manager. In 2012 Nancy was promoted to city manager. She resigned from the City of South Lake Tahoe in March 2018.

"I am very excited and looking forward to the opportunity to live, work, and serve the Town Council, community and staff of Frisco!" said Kerry. "The council is thoughtful and forward thinking, the staff have been very engaged in the process and welcoming, and the community is active and caring about their town. It's a very exciting opportunity to be part of such a special place.

During her time in South Lake Tahoe, Kerry helped to more than double the City's general fund reserves, developed the strategies that carried the community through the recession by eliminating millions in unfunded liability debt, and helped bring developers and land owners together to remove an aging motel (Knight's Inn) while adding new businesses in an environmentally sensitive area (Bijou Marketplace).

Nancy will be heading to Frisco in a couple of weeks. She has been working with Valhalla Tahoe as an organizational development consultant and is wrapping up some strategic planning for the nonprofit.
