Wandering bear dies after being clipped by vehicle on I-580 freeway in Carson City

CARSON CITY, Nev. - A bear that wandered onto the I-580 freeway near Fairview Drive in Carson City was struck and killed by a vehicle Sunday night.

The driver and passenger, a mother with her young son aboard, were not injured.

The collision was reported to dispatch at 8:47 p.m., December 31. Airbags were deployed. According to a Carson City Fire Department battalion chief, the vehicle clipped the bear on the passenger's side.

It is unknown if the bear is the same one in these photos taken Saturday night at the Snap-On tool distribution center in the 1800 block of Fairview.

Nevada State Police alerted wildlife services of the dead bear.
