Winter Weather Advisory issued for Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Greater Lake Tahoe area starting Tuesday at 10 p.m. and lasting until 1 a.m. Thursday.

This system will be followed by another one this weekend.

Neither of the systems looks to be particularly strong, according to NWS Reno, but they are capable of producing travel impacts. The weekend storm is colder and appears to be the stronger of the two at this time.

For Tuesday night, forecast updates show 1-3" of snow is possible at lake level, with another inch on Wednesday, though the advisory calls for 2-8." Tuesday's high temperature is expected to be 42 with a low overnight of around 18 degrees. Wednesday's high and low are forecast to be 34/15.

Thursday is a break between the two weather systems.

At this time there are no warnings issued for the second system though that is expected to change if it continues to track towards Lake Tahoe. It comes in two parts - the initial weak piece on Friday will be followed by the main storm on Saturday starting after 10 a.m. Current projections are 4-8" of snow at lake level.

Since recent storms hitting the California coast have weakened and split, there could be changes. Follow the weather and road controls at the end of the week to check on details.
