Winter Weather Advisory issued for Lake Tahoe for Friday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Another quick-moving storm is headed to Lake Tahoe this week, bringing another one-day Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno. The advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. January 3.
The advisory is for the Greater Lake Tahoe area including Tahoe City, South Lake Tahoe, Glenbrook, Incline Village, Stateline, Truckee, and Markleeville.
Expect snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches above 7000 feet, with up to 12 inches along the highest mountain peaks west of Highway 89. Lake Tahoe could see 1 to 4 inches of snow. Wind gusts are forecast up to 45 mph, with ridge winds gusting over 100 mph. Wave heights on Lake Tahoe are 2 to 4 feet.
Travel could be very difficult, especially across mountain passes. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.
The weekend forecast for South Lake Tahoe from NWS Reno:
Friday - Snow, mainly after 10 am. High near 44. Breezy, with a southwest wind of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible.
Friday Night - Snow likely before 7 pm, then a slight chance of snow showers between 7 pm and 10 pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 15. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible.
Saturday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 39. Calm wind.
Saturday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 23. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph.
Sunday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 46.
Sunday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 25.
