Woman arrested for DUI after two collisions close down US50 west of Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - A 26-year-old woman from West Sacramento was arrested Thursday after allegedly causing two collisions while intoxicated on US50 near the 34 mile-marker in Kyburz.

At 10:25 a.m. on January 4, the report of a hit-and-run was made after a westbound 2004 Toyota Corolla sideswiped a Dodge Ram truck and left the scene. About three miles later, the Corolla was involved in a head-on collision with an eastbound Subaru.

The driver of the Corolla, Jennie Gomez, fled the scene and was caught a short distance away.

The driver of the Subaru was airlifted to Sutter Hospital in Roseville with what was called at the time, non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ram truck was not injured.

Gomez was arrested by the California Highway Patrol and booked into the El Dorado County Jail in Placerville. She is facing one felony count of DUI causing bodily injury, one felony count of hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, one misdemeanor count of driving on a suspended license, and one misdemeanor count of hit-and-run with property damage. Bail at this time is $82,500.

US50 was closed for about 1.5 hours as the injured man was transported and the scene was cleared of the vehicles.
