South Lake Tahoe's Beth Tschantre tries out for American Idol

It's not every day a local girl tries out for the musical talent show, American Idol, but Beth Tschantre has done just that.

The 25-year-old from South Lake Tahoe will make her American Idol debut on Thursday night's show when the San Francisco auditions are highlighted. The show is on FOX from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Tschantre can't say much about what happens as she's bound by a confidentiality agreement, but she can say her segment starts tonight and goes into next week.

Beth attended South Tahoe Middle School as well as the first two years of high school at STHS. She was then home schooled as she focused on music and performing. At age 15 she made her stage debut at the Atlantis in Reno as part of her family band, Turquoise. A lot of what she still does is a family affair, with her dad playing the drums in her band, The Roemers, and her mom, who goes by the stage name Tiger Lyn in the Bay Area, joins her daughter in musical endeavors. After her parents divorced, Beth moved to Los Angeles. The musical family includes five girls and three boys, plus mom and dad.

"I became a solo act "The Worlds Sexiest Percussionist," using the name of CongaBeth in collaboration with Hollywood's top DJs," Beth told South Tahoe Now. Her debut there was playing poolside at The W Hotel with the legendary Macy Gray as DJ.

Beth's music can be heard on her website, www.bethtschantre.com. Fox40 in Sacramento carried a video segment featuring Beth during the tryouts that can be seen here.

Turn on American Idol tonight and root on our local girl!
