Missing snowshoer located off Tahoe Rim Trail

2:45 p.m. update: Search and rescue teams spent Sunday night dredging through deep snow and in very windy snowy conditions to locate the missing snowshoer Raymond Murdock.

The initial search for Murdock was called off in the early morning hours due to the snow and avalanche conditions, resuming Monday morning at 6:00 a.m.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team called in the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office was made for additional personnel and Raven for aerial observation.

At approximately 9:55 a.m., Raven located Raymond in waist deep snow a few miles from the Tahoe Rim Trailhead. Raymond was suffering from mild hypothermia, but overall he was in great spirit and health. He was transported to Barton Hospital in South Lake Tahoe for medical observation. Raymond is avid sportsman in winter conditions and was prepared to survive not being able to seek proper overnight shelter.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team is in the Kingsbury Grade area looking for Raymond Murdock who has been missing since Sunday night.

At about 5:00 p.m., Murdock called 911 to alert them he had become lost while snowshoeing at the top of Kingsbury Grade near Andria Drive.

There is an active search and rescue mission in the area of Andrea and North Benjamin. Please be careful in this area due to a large amount of personnel and vehicles.

Outside resources are being requested to assist and relieve current working SAR members.
